Dr. Spiegels fills

Recommended Posts

I can sympathize with all your plights. He did my surgery and is a good surgeon; but if you happen to be sensitive to fills and need a little more attention; you might as well forget it. I had same issues with him giving me a fill and two weeks later - the fill would kick in and i would not be able to eat....i would develop severe acid reflux....and i think i even had a slip during that time....and he just looked at me like I was from outspace and kept insisting that i was eating too fast or not eating right food or taking too big of bites and he would take the fill all out and send me home. After doing this a couple times, he took my fill down to hardly nothing and told me not to come back until I lost 20 lbs? At that point I found another doctor. Seems like I am one that my fill doesn't hit me for up to two weeks and then I close off. I had a slip in Sept. and my fill was lowered to help me maintain. I kept it that way for 4 months and 6 weeks ago I went and just got small fill to see if I can tolerate it. I'm going to wait another month or so and then try a little more. Some of us have to sneak up on the proper fill little by little and Dr. Spiegel's office just doen't have the time for "our type of patient".

I am on S Padre Island this winter and found Dr. Felipe Cantu in Reynosa, Mx, right across the border from McAllen Tx. He and his partner do a wonderful fill and it would be worth the drive for you to go to them. www.bariatricleaders.com their phone number is on the website and it states that they will do fills. They also use fluoro. so you are getting a very good fill.

I know that Dallas is probably a long way for some of you to go, but I live in Huntsville, TX an I have been driving to Dallas for eight months and getting my fills with Dr. Fred Maese. It costs $200 and he does it under flouro. If you are too tight you can go back within one week and he will give you a slight unfill at no charge. He is great, but he does move patients through quickly. That's the only thing I don't like. I am on my second band. The first one slipped. So, I have been seeing him for about two years now. I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have or give you his phone number if you are interested.

The 3 day thing is true. They make you sign a form stating that you have to come in within 3 days if you need a slight unfill, otherwise you have to go to the surgery center for a complete unfill. I just went in for a fill on Thursday and I felt fine that day but the next day I could feel a tightness in my chest or lump in my throat for several minutes after drinking. I called to ask his office if the three days meant I had to come back Saturday or Monday. They said Monday since they are only open saturday for a seminar. I hope he still honors that. Last night I couldn't drink any cold liquids and I felt the lump in my throat all night long.

I had another fill from him and before I could say anything he put in .4. He was running an hour late and I think he decided that everyone that day was getting .4. He must have had the needles in his pocket. Anyway 6 days later I couldn't swallow my own salivia. It happened on a Sunday so Monday I called the surgicenter. They took me right away. They had to take .5 out because I was so swollen. At .3 the barrium wouldn't go down at all.

I still feel some restriction so we'll see how this goes. I'm not going back to him. If the surgicenter can't do it then I guess I'll go somewhere else. I can only take a .2 or .3 fill at any one time. I'm almost through with the fills as I'm not sure I can take anymore of them.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
