November fitness challenge

Recommended Posts

I have been traveling this week so I have not posted. But I have been able to keep working on the bike, even with all day meetings. That is a new one for me. Before taking on this challenge I would never pack the gym shoes and plan on exercise. 28 miles so far this week. Brings the monthly total to 65 miles.

Isn't it really something that all these WLS post ops are getting so serious about fitness and exercise! We put all the "normal" folks to shame. That is, all the "normal" people who have been naturally thin, never exercise and could eat whatever they wanted while still maintaining a BMI weight. WLS makes us into our ideal selves. Isn't that great?

Fiddleman, I am still pre op, hoping for a surgery date in December. Right now am trying to establish good habits that I can use after surgery. But you"re right about trying to take advantage of the opportunity. Nothing like getting a little religion because of the second chance.

Fun run today! Kids and I ran the whole way! We didn't know it was a trail run, but managed to plug along and get it done! Maybe I should try for a 5k in December?

Not getting 1 hour of exercise every day, but am getting much more than I have in past months. Boy this last 7 lbs is taking FOR EVER to go away!

Feel better Fiddle!

Oh having a sniffly snuffly cold makes working out less than a barrel of fun! My philosophy is if it is not a virus, then it is not a workout killer. I came back from a business trip on Wednesday and picked up something kind of nasty at the airport that struck hard after the run workout I did that day. Already took 4 days when traveling and didn't want to miss any more days.

. Today, I feel much better and have been flushing myself with Water and chomping extra Vitamins. Think it helped, but who knows...

Everything counts as far as I'm concerned. If I broke my legs and had to crawl to the phone, I hope my fitbit registers the crawling so I get credit for it :P

Ok - how about this : I go to PT 2 x a week to work on mobility issues in my back, hips and shoulders (really helps before a cross fit session). As part of the warm up before we start on PT exercises, I use an arm ergonometer for about 6 minutes. It is an interesting machine and is kind of like peddling a bike with your arms. I can get about a mile and sometimes 100 calories, depending on the resistance level. Oddly, I find the arm ergonometer entertaining.

Well SOME of us have to write a mini thesis just to get in all our workouts. So for those SOME, I'm guessing they wouldn't stoop to count their "arm miles". The rest of us poor schmucks have to make do with whatever we can get! :)

Is it helping with your back?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
