First Six Months of Lap Band: Average Weight Loss??

Hi Everybody,

So I've officially made the decision to self pay and I'm scheduling my surgery tomorrow!! AHHHH!!! :) :nervous :D I go back to school in the fall and I was wondering what the average weight loss was for the first 6 months. (I want to clarify that this means post band and not including your pre-op diet.) I'm TOTALLY living in fantasy land and I was hoping ya'll would help me out here in dream world. Thanks team!

Love, Sheila

Going to face the music, take out tons of loans (at this point what's MORE debt!?) and get my BAND!!

Please tell me that the weight will start falling off - -- don't know what I am doing wrong. Have had my first fill and have only lost 4 lbs. A total of 14, but the liquid and soft diet after surgery get to take credit for that!!

Is it because I'm still eating too much? I have changed my eating habits and don't eat the foods I used to - -I buy and use all low fat ingredients, etc. Am I just being too anxious?

Any suggestions???

You are doing good, you usually lose over the first few weeks then gain a little. The first fill usually doesn't do much, just keep eating off the list your Doctor gave you and schedule another fill as soon as your Doctor will let you. No the weight will not fall off! We all hoped that would happen! It is slow and you need to work at it.

Had my band done 3 weeks ago and between the pre-op diet and since I have lost a total of 50 lbs. Can't wait to lose the rest. I really enjoy coming to the site and reading of the success others have had.:clap2:

Hello all my April lapband friends. I have a question. And I am hopeing someone can help. :help: I weighed in on April 2nd at 212. Then a week later I weighed in and had lost ten pounds. Well today April 16 a week later and I weigh myself and I have only lost two pounds. I barely ecer eat. Is this normal? Can someone please tell me. I am so lost. Thank you Stacey

I lost most of my weight the first 6 months. It has been a slow since. i long for the good old days when I could lose fast!

wow! great job!!! Keep up the great work!!

Today's my 6-month bandiversary, and I'm down 82 lbs.

Edit: I missed the "how?" part of your message. Basically, I follow the band rules most of the time, drink my Water, limit sugar, white flour, and trans/saturated fats. After the first 50-60 lbs., I started exercising, and have steadily progressed with that until I'm now doing a spin class 5-6 days a week plus strength training 2-3 days a week. I don't believe in keeping a "too tight" band, because I want to be able to eat Breakfast and solid Proteins. Oh, and I didn't use any Protein supplements until recently (due to the strength training).

For the last month or two I've been posting everything I eat and drink on my blog at Obesity Help, feel free to take a look:

I looked at your food log on obestiy help and I am eating very similar to you.I am not losing. I am wondering if it's becasue I take hormones. I have heard it's a lot harder to lose when you're on them.

I have had the band 3 month and have lost 24 lbs. 22 of it was the first 4 weeks of being on a liquid diet. I just had a fill last week and lost a little. I hope I don't go on another 2 month plataeu:speechles

Denise-

By hormones, does this include birth control?

Denise, there are so many things that can influence weight loss, and hormones can certainly play a part. But, my weight loss has been unusually fast because of a high basal metabolic rate. Plus, for the past 4 months I've been working out pretty intensely. Do you exercise? There's nothing to compare to exercise for improving your metabolism as well as burning calories.

Tami

Yes I do exercise about 6 days a week. I do a lot of cardio and I lift weights.

By hormones I was talking about hormone replacement therapy. I gained a lot of weight during menopause. That's when I started working out and going to the gym every day. I didn't lose any weight. That's when I decided to get the band.

Don't let a plateau go on that long. Get tough on fat! LOL Seriously, do what you have to go get things going again. Change things around, exercise more, change your exercise habits.

What are you doing for exercise and what is a typical daily food intake?

Denise, have you ever tried SparkPeople.com? It's an awesome site. You log in what you eat, and it tells you exactly how many calories you ate, plus grams of fat, carbs, and Protein. There's also a fitness tracker and lots of other tools, but to be honest, I haven't explored them all!
