Bad Neck pain after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 3/1/07 and came home from the hospital yesterday. I feel great with the exception of EXTREME neck pain. Almost like a kinked neck - but worse than I've ever felt before. My nurse told me it's excess gas from surgery. Did anyone else have extreme neck pain and if so - what did you do about it? HELP!

I have not been banded yet, but I did read that if it is on the left side, it is the contraindications of the Carbon Dioxide that was used to inflate you during your procedure. The affects will wear off in about 4 days to a week. Hope this helps.

I was banded on 2/20 and had gass pain that got progressively worse after the surgery. I started noticing it on Day 4 and it got so painful it hurt to breathe. :think I walked, took Gas-X, Rolaids for Gas, hung out with a heating pad...nothing helped. Unfortunately, I just had to wait it out. I had read an old post on here saying some ladies dealt with residual gas pain for up to two weeks post op. I consider myself lucky mine only lasted 10 days! I feel for you!

My pain was under my left rib cage, and up into the left side of my neck. I lasted 1 week and 2 days. It got progressively worse as the days went by. It did come and go. After 8 days, my husband called the nurse in charge of the office, and she told me to go back on the pain meds, and that seemed to help.

My doctor told me that he felt it might be from some drainage that seeped up, and was irritating the phrenic nerve, that runs along the diaphragm, (since it was lasting so long.) It is gone now, but do have an occasional twinge.

I was banded on 2/28 and I tried all of the above as well. I found that if I laid on my left side (with a pillow under my tummy, since that is the really sore side) it helped. I don't know if it moves the gas or what but it seemed to work. I also found that Milk of Magnesia worked much better for me than the Gas-X. Be careful how much you take, it can have you running (or walking very quickly) to the restroom.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
