So I was told by the surgeons office that the one thing holding me back from getting a surgery date is the sleep study. I went to the consultation and I had the sleep apnea test but the lady at the surgeons office said there is 3 parts to this study. What is she talking about? I have a follow up appointment in November for the sleep study but does anyone know what she meant by 3 parts? I am so confused and frustrated right now.

Call and ask. I did everything in one night. First I slept, and clearly documented apnea, so they kept trying different masks and pressure the rest of the night. Sometimes this is divided into two nights, but they did not need to wait in my case. Have NO idea what part 3 might be???

Mine was 2 nights. 1st night was to diagnose if I had apnea or not, A week later - 2nd night was to test the mask and adjust the air pressure.

I am thinking maybe she is talking about the visit to your doctor after the 1-2 sleep study nights where he/she looks at the results of the study and prescribes the cpap machine if needed.

As someone else said, if you are obviously having apnea, the technician will fit you for the mask and pressure the same night as the initial study so that would save one night.

My sleep study was done in one night, at my house. I picked up this crazy gizmo and did the study, the next day I dropped the machine back at my doctors. then a week or so later I got the results. yep, I had sleep apnea. I got my own home machine and had one more appt with my sleep doctor before surgery to look at my machine memory card. I still use my machine. I sleep better with it. So there were 3 appts pre op. Good luck. I was told by my doctor using a cpap before surgery reduced the risk of respiratory failure. I even had to bring it to the hospital.

I did the sleep study in one night. They put a mask on me in the middle of the night I guess to see what I needed. I just went to the cpap place & did everything else. Don't know why you would have to sleep more than one night.
