Is everyone on pre op diet?

Recommended Posts

That's all I had to do...idk why a lot of people had to do a pre-op diet. I just know my surgeon did not require it

I don't think its "common". The majority of Dr's require a pre-op for at least a week or two. But certainly some Drs don't. I just think they are more in the minority. I interviewed several Drs, and one of them didn't require a pre-op diet, just the 24 hours liquid before. Every Dr is different.

I've been on this pre-op diet for 11 days now- 10 days of Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement shakes + 2 yogurts daily and tomorrow is day 2 of clear liquids. My doctor requires it because it shrinks the liver prior to surgery. Not really sure why it's important to some doctors and not to others...

I am on a pre op diet. Low carb, low cal, low fat, high Protein. My surgeon says it is to reduce the size of the liver to give him more room to work. I have talked to others that have to do all liquid for two weeks pre op. Yuck. I'm jealous that you only have to do one day!

My doctor requires the liquid diet 24 hours before surgery, but recommends a two week Liver Shrinking Diet so surgery is easier. But it isn't crazy. High Protein, low carb, and lots of Water. It actually helps with discovering Protein Shakes for the future, in my opinion.

Mine requires 2 weeks full liquid and then a full colonoscopy prep the day before! :-/ I think I'm dreading that more than the actually surgery....I begin liquids on 10/26.

I'm on month 5 of a 7 month monitored pre-op diet. I'll be on a 2 week full liquid diet prior to surgery. This is all required as part of my surgeons program.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
