My doc's program says that carbonated drinks can cause gas and bloating and to consider eliminating all together, but I know of people on here who drink 1 per day - and sometimes let it go flat so that the bubbles don't bug them too much. Sorry, not much of an answer! :)

Never. I can't drink it and I was sleeved 18 months ago. Soda is not good for any WL patient. The carbonation can stretch your pouch. The gas in the drink comes out and expands your stomach like a balloon. Your new stomach pouch can be stretched out over time if you drink carbonated beverages after your surgery. What’s more, carbonated beverages – like soda pop, ginger ale, sparkling cider and even tonic Water – increase hunger and contribute to weight regain.

My surgeon said he didn't care, but I find it too painful unless I drink it reallly really slowly....so maybe I'll have like 1 soda a month or something. I doubt at that frequency anything bad will happen (plus doc's approval).

I don't drink soda pop, But I drink several bottles of sparkling Water per day, and an average of 3 beers a week. Carbonation doesnt bother me.... and no it has not and will not strech my stomach. (I am 26 months post-op) I waited until 4-5 months out.

I was allowed soda after 4 months, but I've been drinking Crystal Light lemonade for more than 10 years - so I don't have any desire to drink fizzy stuff anymore.

At the initial appointment with my surgeon, I was told carbination was out of the picture after being sleeved. I never drank another soda after that......and don't see myself ever drinking bubbly anything again......it's been 7 months and I don't miss it.....

For me, I figure it's one of the concessions of having the sleeve.....plus it might be a slippery slope once I start, if I ever did have soda......Good luck!!!

Yep, was told to avoid and I do. Just an acceptable trade off ...

I'm 5 months out and started drinking soda recently. Don't do it! It doesn't hurt me to drink small amounts now, but I wish it did. I used to be addicted to soda before surgery and it was stupid of me to even try it. Now I want it all the time - and it's is so bad for us just because of all the chemicals, etc.! I'm stopping NOW!

Great advice and well taken. I see for each it's own. I love my beer and soda.... Crystal light has been horrible to me... I'm currently trying G2 and propel 0 and all those.... I guess it's just mental..

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
