How are people handling the pre op diet or how have you handled it? First few days are seeming to be rough. I'm feeling a little hungry I think. Not exactly sure if it's hunger or habit????

I would say the first 4 to 5 days of the pre op is the worst. Your body and mind are revolting a bit. It does get better though!

I think it depends on your surgeon's version of the diet. I could have 1 piece of fruit, 1 yogurt, 3 Protein Shakes and 2 small meals (3 oz. meat with non-starch veggies), so I didn't find it that hard, but I know a lot of people are on liquids only, and I'm not sure how well I'd do on that!

I'm doing really well. Usually have a boiled egg for breakfast, fruit cup before lunch, shake for lunch and then Protein and green veg for dinner. I'm trying to stay really busy so I don't think about food. Really haven't been hungry at all and down 6 lbs since Saturday, so that's encouraging.

My pre op diet is the 2-3 Protein Shakes and a lean Protein with green salad per day.

My 14 days is still like 9 days out but I'm ready to get started early. I'm going to start tomorrow. Want to get through the sugar/ carb detox ASAP. Want to get as much weight off as possible pre-op. going to start my 30 min of walking early too. No time like the present. Gotta git r done!

Oh and my doc recommends a Metamucil or benefited capsule a day on pre op to combat hunger. We shall see...

first 4 days can be tough as you "detox". But stick with it. You'll help your surgeon by reducing the size of your liver (which covers the stomach during the surgery.

And hunger or habit is something to ponder. I am convinced that I was never hungry before... I was just always eating...

Good point Arts!

And they say it takes 21 days to break or form a new habit. So if I just suck it up now and get through the rough part, maybe post op would be so bad.

All good points! Thanks. I will be sucking it up and following through as I know it will make it easier in the long run. Just wish I could go and get it done already lol.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
