Is 65 too old for a gastric sleeve plication

Recommended Posts

Yes, those are the reasons why I went with Dr Lopez Corvala, ie there's an ICU should complications arise (they didn't arise but I'd rather have them right there if something did happen). Dr Lopez is very experienced (certainly with the plication - you'd have to check on VSG, although I can't imagine he isn't).

Plus for plications any complication costs are covered - you'd have to check for the sleeve, but for plication it says the following in the link below.

http://healthtraveltechnologies.com/htg/ahi/AHIFaqGastricSleevePlication/

"Angeles Price Assurance : The cost for any complications that may occur during your procedure and while you are at the hospital will be

absorbed by the hospital." [at the bottom of the above link]

I went with Dr Ortiz but my 2nd choise was Dr Corvala.Dr Ortiz has his own clinic, and Dr Corvala uses a Hospital.I think you are safer at the Hospital.

My Dad, Mom and I are all having Gastric Sleeve Plication done in Tijuana with Dr. Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center. My Dad is 65, so it's not a problem. We will have our surgery on Aug. 10th. I'll let you know how it goes. Dr. Ortiz was listed by Newsweek as one of the top 15 bariatric surgeons in the world.

BTW, I just re-read the original post and noticed it says plication at the end - I only picked up on the words 'gastric sleeve', sorry! unsure.gif

65 is fine for VSG, subject to your general health being what's considered 'normal'. You may want to post on http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/ as that site may be more relevant for sleeve answers.

BTW what's your BMI?

My doc, Dr Lopez Corvala does the sleeve. I'd recommend him for the VSG to friends or family.

Hi Nancy, I was scared of a leak. The risk of leak with the plication is meant to be zero (I've read about a couple of complications with GPS so far). The risk of a leak on a virgin stomach with VSG is 1%. Here's a link where Tiffykins on VST talks about her leak http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/14560-vsg-leak/

Tiffykins was a band to sleeve conversion and the risk jumps to 4% for revisions. Tiffykins says in the above thread "I will honestly say that all the complications were worth having the life I have today."

Curtis' vlog on youtube had VSG complications and you may want to have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F63Ra9IorJw I've not watched his vlogs recently, but IIRC he would do it again (he has a whole series of vlogs).

I was under the belief that the weight loss with GPS was going to be same the same as VSG and it appears not to be the case for a number of people - I've not heard as many insufficient weight loss reports with VSG.

You need to seriously consider your options.

I've re-watched some of Curtis' Vlogs and on video 7 he says under the comments "I am ok now, and the surgery was definitely worth it." On video 8 Curtis posts in the comments section "Have you considered the Gastric Sleeve? It's the surgery I recommend."

In that video Curtis talks about his dad wanting to go for the sleeve!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
