My mandatory pre-op education class is on Tuesday from 8:45-1:15. If I don't go, my surgery will be postponed a month or more. Tuesday also happens to be my miracle baby's(leukemia survivor) first day of preschool from 9am-12pm. I am so sad and depressed about missing this huge milestone! What would you do? I'm contemplating calling her in sick on Tuesday lol

Oh man that is a hard one. A month is short period of time and flys by. The start of pre school only happens once. Best in luck in whatever you decide :)

I guess it depends. A year from now which would you have rather done?

I don't know! I'm really leaning towards keeping her home that first day lol

I agree. And I bet she's so excited!! Let her enjoy it. A month is a drop in the bucket in the long run.

I'd keep her home that day or get someone else to take her. Yes, the start of pre school is an event, my son hated it so it was a bad event lol. But isn't it more important that you get healthy? Keep her home one day and you can stick to both appts! I'm quite sure her education wont be stunted for life over one day :)

This is a hard one for sure! I think as long as you know for sure you can do the next class & still have the surgery at a later date, you should choose to be there with your daughter on her first day. Like somebody said, her starting school is a once in a lifetime event. And even though it isn't anything major academically, it is a big deal emotionally, as I'm sure you know(: On the first day, I'm sure they will have lots of fun first day activities/bonding moments that she should get a chance to experience.

But with that being said, I think everybody would understand if you made the decision to keep her home and get started on your journey to health, so that you'll be able to see all her other firsts in life! Good luck & let us know what you decide!

I think I would keep her home. It's just pre k she can miss a day. That way you can take her and walk her to her class. She will remember that. My foster daughter did. She remembered I cried when she got on the bus. Lol I know I'm super soft but I've had her since she was born she's five now.

Go to the class! It's important that you loose the weight for her!! One day of school won't hurt her. :)

I'm having the same issues. My surgery is Sept 3rd which happens to be the first day of school. My son is going into kindergarten and riding a bus. I'm so torn by this. I feel like I'm abandoning him on a special day. My mom will be taking him to the bus, but it tears my heart apart knowing I will miss him on his first few days. I was not fortunate to get my surgery date earlier. If you could reschedule, your date I would. I'm more upset about missing him then I am nervous about the surgery. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Kindergarten is a harder one Sue. My son doesn't know it but I followed his bus in a friend's car so he wouldn't see me! I video taped him getting off the bus and going into school on his first day of school. Perhaps you can have someone tape something like that for you?

So I had an emotional breakdown about this tonight. I was so upset that I couldn't find the right outfit for him to wear in first day of kindergarten that I just started crying my eyes out about not being here for him and not having the perfect outfit. I was a mess. This all came about after my 11 year told me she didn't want me to have the surgery because she was afraid I would die. I've been so strong through this whole process and I just let the tears flow. As I go to sleep tonight I pray to the good Lord that he watch over me and let me make it through this surgery. I can't leave my children. I'm not ready for that. Okay, enough if that before I start crying again. I've got to leave for the hospital in 5 1/2,hours.

I'll say a prayer for you tonight. I know the Lord will have his hands on you in the operating room keeping you safe, as well as guiding the surgeons hands to complete another successful surgery. You sound like a wonderful mother who loves her children enough to regain your health for them!

I promise your son will have a wonderful first day and will never hold it against his mama that you weren't there. As for as your daughter, I was just a couple years older than her when my mom had her rny & I was so angry with her for what I thought was her being "selfish" to go ahead with such a major surgery. I said the same thing as your daughter and was so upset I don't even remember the day of her surgery because I wanted nothing to do with her. Here it is years later, my mom is the healthiest she's been in her adult life and I am so incredibly grateful that she went through with surgery. Just like your daughter, I did not understand that she was doing it for me and my brother so that we would get to have our mother around with out letting this horrible disease that is obesity take her from us prematurely. She may be mad/scared now, but I KNOW she will come around just like I did and be sooooo grateful for what you are doing today!

I wish you the best and can't wait to see your future posts about how happy you and your children are with your new beginning!(:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
