I am scheduled to have surgery August 28th. I started my pre-op diet yesterday, August 14th.

4-6 No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast

1c of skim or 1% milk per day. Can be added on 1 instant Breakfast or split up between them. Otherwise shakes must be mixed with Water. (yuck)

between the Carnation I can have 1 cup of sugar free Jello or 1-2 sugar free popsicles

at least 64oz of Water - can add Mio, Crystal Light, Sugar Free Kool-Aid etc.

Let me tell you, mixing 1 packet of the Carnation with water is yuuuuckie. It was suggested to make the ones with water with 3 packets. That is way better but it leaves me with only having 2 drinks per day.

I also found if I mix half water, half milk and then add Decaf instant coffee crystals to it, it is actually pretty good. So that is what I have been doing as far as my shakes go.

I have also had some Isopure clear drinks to help keep my Protein up.

I told my husband that I would do dirty things if he would just get me a cheeseburger. Surprisingly he declined. He said I will thank him for it. Now that takes some WILLPOWER on his part. HAHA

This diet is all about testing my willpower. I will do it. I actually know I can.

I do however, know that I will have at least 1 day that I am going to cheat. I won't cheat big, but I know I am going to since it is a planned dinner.

I've done alright so far. Had a few "cheats" but nothing real major. I have lost about 10lbs this past week. I'm really wanting to eat a "real meal" but I also don't want to mess anything up. This has been one of the hardest "diets" I have ever been on. I stay in my bedroom when I am home just so I won't have the urge to go to the kitchen and graze around on crap.

Anyone else have a hard time on the pre-op diet?

Drinking a lot of Water helps. It helps with making your stomach feel like it has something in it. I read so much that different surgeons require different diets. I feel as long as I'm under the calories of what my shakes would be and stay sugar free and such, I'll be ok. I will go full on Carnation No Sugar Added shakes and Water starting the Sunday of my surgery week. The day before surgery I can have broth... Clear liquids. uugggghhhh... still sucky but I know it's going to be worth it.

I'm actually so flipping hungry right now I would go for a couple of crackers. But I told myself that I am not cheating today. I am keeping myself busy at work looking at this website and other RNY stuff, trying to keep my mind off my hunger. Then I find my mind drifting to things like patty melts and chili cheese dogs and hot wings! HAHA. dangitalltohell

I've lost a few pounds on my pre-op but my problem is I don't have much of an appetite. I don't know if it's the stress from my job or what. I've managed maybe one shake a day (not most days). I have however had the meal that I can have each day but then nothing else. I did eat some frozen yogurt yesterday but I figured that replaced my shake. I'm scared to get back on the scale because when I miss meals I don't lose weight but I just can't get it together. Surgery is Monday so I'm going to try to do good this weekend! Good Luck everybody!

My surgery is Thursday. On day 2 of pre-op diet. I really want to eat meat! I have to drink 5 Carnation instant Breakfast no sugar added mixed with 2% milk plus another scoop of whey Protein throughout the day. I haven't really felt hungry, just want meat. I have been very tired, though or maybe it's just my brain telling me if I sleep I won't think about food. I really don't want to cheat. I think if I do it will make tomorrow that much harder. I heard the first 3 days are the worst.

I've had a few cheats but it does seem to get a little easier. But I find some days I don't even have the Carnation shakes I'm supposed to have. I find when I am at home I try to stay in bed as long as possible.

A few crackers shouldn't hurt.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
