July 2013 - Post Op Thread

Recommended Posts

So today is 6 days post op and I have done really well with head hunger. Well today my husband made lunch for our son and himself. He made one of my favorites, pepperoni and motz sandwiched on a soft deli bun. UGH! they looked soo good. my mouth was watering. I was really hoping I would be someone who didn't get head hunger. :/ oh well. On the plus side I am down to 300 lbs! That is 28 lbs in 6 days! I am shocked I didn't expect it to come off so fast.

Hi my name is Steve I had my surgery just about a week ago on July 16th. I can't say my recovery has been that smooth. First my surgery got delayed by a week which meant another week of pre op liquids, then we get to the hospital for my scheduled time and they tell me it's delayed again by a few hours. I almost walked away from everything right then, but stuck with it. I laid on the surgery table at about 3:30pm and didn't come to in recovery until around 8:45pm they told me everything went well the surgery took 5 hours. I woke up with the feeling as if my left side was totally asleep, to this day below my waist still feels that way which makes it hard to walk. They told me its normal and due to being positioned on the table funny for 5 hours. (I'm not so sure) I'm now home and trying to do good but it's hard not being able to walk. I get at least 25-34 oz of Water in me and normally 8oz of Protein shake. I'm trying to get those numbers up but the gas pains come on so strong at times I just can't fit anymore in. I am new to this board and want to thank you all. You all are my rock in me trying to get through this!!

Starting weight of weight loss journey 511lbs

Pre op diet weight 467lbs

After pre op diet 435lbs

As of today post op 425lbs

Hi Steve, I'm still preop but you have come to the right place for support. These people help me with my questions all the time and I look forward to someday being able to help someone else with my experience.

Welcome to the group!!!

Glad to hear that all of you are putting in such effort an dedication. It feels so good to be able to talk with people going through the same thing as me.

Whenever I reach a rough patch I just look back at these posts and remind myself that this too shall pass.

Keep up the good work; I'm so proud of all of us!

And to those of you who are in surgery today: good luck and we'll see ya on the losing side.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this page. Just had surgery on Tuesday the 23rd. Everything went great with the surgery, and I was sent home the next day. My problem now is trying to drink these Protein shakes. They are disgusting. I'm hoping that my taste buds change in a few because I want to be successful in losing weight, and staying healthy. So now I'm so happy to say I'm officially on the Losers Bench. Post op appointment on the 31st.

Im new here everyone...Hello....i had my surgery july 18th and just had my first post op appt. yesterday.im down 11 pounds, the pain is bearable...its mostly in my left side and the doc said it expect it to last awhile. I have a 19 month old son that i need to get better and improve for. I signed up at the hospitals wellness center gym yesterday and i am super excited about this journey. I was however dying on that clear liquid diet and my doc just advanced me yesterday so today i ate some cream of wheat and loved it and tolerated it well. I look firward to this journey with all of you.

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum. My surgery was on 7/11 and I'm doing okay I think. I am drinking fluids constantly and getting in at least 2 big walks a day. I am absolutely sick of broth and strong smells are bothering me. Is anyone else having trouble with the smells of food?

Yes i did have a problem with cooking smells when i first came home and lucky my boyfriend is supportive enough to eat food that doesnt require cooking for a little while

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
