Any aussie rny people out there..

Rny is not popular yet in Australia. I often read on the American sites about how much hoo haa you all have to go through with your insurance..we are lucky here I guess. If the doc says that you need it done that's the end of the story. I think that if I wasn't for my band giving me terrible reflux that they would make me have the sleeve instead.

I don't know anyone who has bypass. Tho know heaps of people that have the band or sleeve.

It was hard to find a surgeon that does rny in Australia. In fact my surgeon practiced in the USA. In on Monday for my surgery....so scared.

Hey. I'm from oz, I don't have a date yet but my surgeon is also suggesting GBP because of relux issues I have. I'm in Sydney.

Hi, what state are you from?

I am from Vic.

I had my band removed a couple of weeks ago and there was a lot of scarring where the band was.

My surgeon said before the surgery if there was too much scarring he wouldn't do an RNY because it would be too difficult to make the pouch small enough.

I have my next appt in 2 weeks and I hope like hell he's not going to tell me he wont do it at all. I know that if he does go ahead he will have to do open surgery.

GOOD LUCK with your surgery xox

PS Since the band has gone, it's such a relief... no reflux, no choking etc :)

Hey skylily. Good to see yet another aussie! There is an actual thread for oz gbs contenders but its empty. Maybe the 3 of us can bring it to life, I'd love to share the journey!!!

Hi all I'm from Perth.. Nice to see some fellow Aussies.. My doc said the same thing. If there is too much scar tissue he won't be able to do the revision on the day. I hoe it will be ok...I will be devastated if I have to wait.. My surgery was already cancelled once already.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Perth newbie :)

Hi Mimz, I'll go see if I can find it :)

Its located under local gastric bypass support groups. Once you go there you will see the thread, I will go and post in there now and subscribe to it so I don't miss any replies!!

Hi all surgery is all done, and just got home...the surgery took 8 hours to remove the band and clean up all the adhesions and do the bypass.. The poor surgeons back was broken.. I am glad that the first few days are over and I am starting to feel human again. My drain was giving me hell..tried to bribe a few nurses to take the thing out for me..it was instant relieve when it came out. The silly buggers in the hospital brought me apple juice and full sugar sorbet. Lucky the doc walked in and told me not to eat it because it would make me dump...they also sent me home with liquid panadol full of sugar...that instantly gave be the runs...did anyone have a headache after their bylass. I have had the most hideous headache and neck ache for two days.. Not dehydrated..tolerating fluids well.????

The pain meds gave me a headache....ironic but true!!!! I so love life without my band!!!!!!

HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 217.2

I'm glad that part's all over for you The long walk home. So pleased he went ahead despite the scarring.

Hope you're feeling better soon xxx
