One week! I have been busy trying to get my household chores completed. Filled the fridge with things that my husband and son can eat' date=' packing and trying to get everything situated for the teacher who will close out the year for me. With all of this going on, I have managed to not once complain about this liquid diet. I will say the first two days were hard. I have to remind myself to drink the Protein Shakes and Water. I guess this not only helps shrinking my liver, but it has prepared me mentally for what is ahead. I have dropped 14 pounds in one week...one more week to go and I look forward to the 100+ when I make it to the losers bench,[/quote']

We're in the home stretch!

I can hardly believe in one week I will be in the hospital having my surgery. I am keeping busy this week taking care of getting the house in order. I plan on making some casseroles for my boys to pull out and cook while I am busy sipping and walking. I am really getting nervous! I wonder if I can handle all the changes that are about to come my way. I don't have to do a liquid diet. My doctor requires just a low carb, low fat diet the week before. I am working on no caffeine, but that is so difficult. Any words of wisdom are appreciated!

Yayyy for all the Junebugs! :-) I'm so excited for all of us. My pre-op diet (Atkins) starts on Thursday...I too can't believe that in just 2 weeks I'll be on the losers bench!! Best of luck and God bless to all of us! I had to deal with the "you don't look that bad" comment today. Do people think before they open their mouths?? I was so hurt by that, but I'm trying to just brush it off. I guess what really hurts is that we live in a society that focuses sooooo much on a person's size. I for one know that I am a great person, but when people look at me they see just a big person.

Let the week of food fun commence! Haha

I have my menu planned out for this week. So far, everything has been sooo good, and I was almost sad at the thought of possibly never having those foods again, but nothing tastes as good as skinny will feel. :D I guess anyway, 'cause I've never been skinny. :P

I have never been skinny either! It will be great to find out how that feels. It doesn't seem real to think that this time next year we will be skinny! Yay for us!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean, I spent Saturday with my lil sister and I was telling her (she's not my biological sister, I adapted her when she moved her from out of town), anyhow, I told her I was having the surgery and that I was over 100 lbs overweigh and she looked at me and was like, where you hiding a 100 lbs...she said she can't see it....I get that reaction when I tell people I'm well over 200 lbs, they look at me with amazement, because I guess I'm not shaking all over the place when I move, anyhow, I weigh more than my husband and his pretty much fit...So, yeah, I don't like it when people tell me you don't look overweight, but heck, all the medications I take for gout, high blood pressure, arthuritis, and PE I'm on says "yes, you fat azz hell", lol

I got a question, has anyone had IVC Filter placed before surgery, any surgery? I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot in my lungs) in December 2012, I was on Coumadin from Dec. until April of 2013. Because of this, my surgeon is requesting that I have IVC Filter placed before surgery to lesson my chances of PE (blood clot in the lungs), I'm a little scared, they will be placing an umbrella like tube in my main vein through my neck that will be lodged in my stomach to catch any blood clot that moves, this sounds so scary, but I know its just added measure for me to have a successful surgery. Please let me know if you will have this as well or has had it in the past, does it hurt? Do you feel it inside of you? and did you have any complications with removal?

My Mom had a filter put in a few years ago. To my knowledge she has not had it removed. She does not talk about feeling it. Hope that helps a little.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
