Little weight loss

Recommended Posts

I had RNY last May. It's been 11 months and I'm only down 56 lbs. my surgeon wants to go back in to go deeper with the bypass. Scared, nervous and depressed!!:-(

You'll be ok... I've heard of that happening before. Some surgeons are very conservative with the bypass and unfortunately some people just NEED that extra couple inches to make the difference. You'll be great and much happier you did! I'd also suggest keeping a food log and making an appointment with your surgeons dietitian to maybe help you tweak your diet for optimum weight loss. :) good luck!!!!

Wait I am confused......

what's all this talk about being "conservative"? And going back in to do what.... do it AGAIN??

Can anyone elaborate? Isn't there a standard measurement that they follow the FIRST time?

From what my surgeon told me, the standard is 1.5 feet, but after reading, some surgeons don't always go that far.

John! I've missed seeing you post! Do you think you should get a second opinion?

John.... this is VERY interesting.... I am one year out. My start weight was 216 and I am 163 now so a total of 53 lbs is not my idea of RNY. I have to fight for every pound now. I exercise constantly, eat the right foods but it just does not come off. I have my follow up appt. and I am going to ask about this.

Is your insurance covering the cost?

Sounds like the doctor needs to eat the cost of the second surgery.

Very confused also. I thought there was a standard procedure. Is it the dr that makes the decision?

Saw my Dr today for post-op visit #1. Asked him about this....

He said there is a standard but also every patient is different due to their size. I happen to be a smaller patient.

For me, he removed 50 cm (19.5 inches) and pulled up 120 cm (47.25 inches).... and yes he used the medical terms, and no I don't recall them - but this was the gist of it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
