My first weight gain at 4 months out! :(

Recommended Posts

So I am super bummed because this is my first weight gain since surgery 4 months ago. I haven't been doing bad eating wise and I have upped my workout these last 2 weeks so I don't know why I not only losing but am gaining. It's so discouraging becuase here I am being active and kicking butt and then I get this news and it totally knocks you down. The only think I can think of that made me gain was either gaining muscle or Water retention. Other than that nothing makes sense. I should still be losing. I have another 90 pounds to go. Any words from the wise out there. Is this something that can happen when you start consistantly working out? I lost 5 pounds last week.

Thanks guys. This sucks!

P.S. I did accomplish another one of my goals though, went hiking twice this weekend, woohooo!

I know that can be a bummer unfortunately I am only a week post so I don't have a clue but I would love to know what that is about. Are you getting ur cycle? Have you had a bowl movement recently? How much did u lose the prior month? Sorry for all the questions. Loveeeeeeeee the picture of u and ur daughter. How much have u lost so far??? Honestly, I would call the dietian so this can be nipped in the bud right now.

Some of the weight gain could be muscle if you are working out especially if you upped your workout. Also as women we can gain five pounds in a day due to hormones and our monthly cycle. As long as you are eating well I would just watch and see if it was just a fluke. You could also try if you are not already eating very low carb.. less then 20 grams a day... Just a thought...

1. Monthly friend

2. Muscle

3. Not enough calorie intake

You can try going back to liquid for a week. You can cut all Pasta bread and rice for a week & drink more Water & see if the scale moves again.

Take your measurements. Maybe you will be encouraged by that.

No cycle yet and yes all pipes are working good, LOL. I don't really know how much I lost the prior month but the week before I lost 5.

Thank you. I have lost well it was 81 now its 79 :(

I am going to wait it out this week and see what my weight is on weigh in. Maybe it was just because I upped my workouts.

Thanks for the concern and questions though

Yeah I have upped my workout so maybe it is that. I do think I eat to many carbs so I need to watch that as well. Maybe I should start writing everything I eat down even though I hate that and only end up doing it for like half the day. I need to just pack a lunch and that is all I have for the day and then I won't have to write it down throughout the day cause I already know what I had. Thanks for the comment :)

Hahaha, I def think I need to cut the carbs for sure. Maybe with that and giving it another week or so I will be back on track. Thanks girl

Yes I should do that. I have lost inches I think so maybe I should go that route. Thanks for the idea:)

For those of us who post on the boards all the time and are several months out we see this post all the time. In a few months you will smile when you see a post like this because you will remember how stressed you were and now know it is part of the process.

My token advice is this - when I gained or stalled I was still losing inches. To me inches were more important than the weight. I am an athlete and trying to get into the police academy. My workouts are all about gaining muscle. In the end I know that means my weight will go up. No worries though I have gone from a size 22 to a size 8-10. I went from 2-3xl shirts to a s-m. In my soccer game last night I felt like I was a teenager. I scored two goals and could run the entire game. That is what matters. You mentioned you hit a goal by hiking last week. Now set a new goal and go get it!! Anything is within your reaches now!

Now with that said I am anxiously waiting to hit 100 lbs lost and that last damn pound will not come off. Keep the faith and keep doing what you are supposed to and it will all work out. Try not to get to wrapped up in a number and remember you did this to get healthy!

You are so right. I think I am dropping inches even though the scale went up. I need to not worry about it as much. Like you and the others are saying stop worring about the number and believe in the tool. Thanks guys for much needed advice and tough love. That's why I always come to you guys for advice

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
