Women and Hormones...

Recommended Posts

I recently changed surgeries from the sleeve to RNY, because of insurance issues. I was made aware with the sleeve, there are huge hormone swings. Is it the same with RNY? Something about estrogen being released into the blood??? Any info would be great! What hormone changes should I expect?

Everyone you can imagine. The fat you lose releases a ton of hormones. Tell everyone around you to be patient... It will pass

Oh yes... Skin changes, oily hair, mood swings, crying at commercial, more fertile, you name it.... Mine has not been that bad but I can tell I get depressed more easily about my weight.

I've also heard about the smells. That is what freaks me out the most. I don't want to be smelly. The bad breath, I can deal with.

I had the sleeve. I now can not find a deodorant that will control the odor of my armpits. I was never a sweater and still not but its like my glands are secreting a very strong odor since surgery. My hair is oily and my face is breaking out all the time which is funny because I never even had acne in high school. Oh I hope it goes away soon. My Water bill is crazy with all the showers. Lol

I was going to have the sleeve, until I got tired of fighting with my insurance company. Great, puberty all over again and going into menopause. Lovely, just lovely. Oh well, I am sure it will all settle down at some point. I just hope I don't turn into a crabby wife and mom. Maybe they should include a stay at some remote area with people to wait on us hand and foot. Whata concept!

Ok so I just read an article that Constipation can cause body odors and bad breath. Don't know if you are or not but thought I would throw it out there

My skin cleared up with all the Water and healthy food. Now I get one near my period and that's it. I haven't had any sweating or body odor. I'm already on a ton of anxiety and depression medication so I'm guessing that's helped all the mood swings.

I was pretty emotional for the first week. I cried about everything. I'm only 2 weeks out but it's better. My face has cleared up. I was breaking out all the time. Now I have no pimples at all. I haven't noticed any smells. I hope I don't smell.

OMG, I can totally contribute to this thread. I noticed after I started my antidepressants back in April 2012 that I no longer get very emotional about anything. Even the whole surgery process was actually very easy for me. However, I'm just about 2 weeks out from surgery, and this morning I cried over the STUPIDEST thing: I was watching the Katie Perry concert DVD and there's a scene where she realizes her marriage to Russell Brand (whom I cannot stand) is over, and she's just laying backstage, crying, barely able to make it onstage. She bawled all the way until she got onstage, and then put on a great show. I swear... I cried like a baby! It's ridiculous! I didn't even really like her, until I saw this DVD.

Maybe I'm just having one of those melancholy days...

For the first month after surgery, my hair was greasy, face was broken out, and I had the God-awfulist gas on the planet. But then it cleared up. Now as far as depression, I have battled that for years now, and honestly do not see an increase nor decrease in that since the surgery.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
