Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

:D Anyone else getting banded on April 17? I'm starting to feel so lonely here...:cry

Been on my liquid diet since Easter. Evenings are the hardest for me -- I get so hungry and grouchy. I picked up an electronic solitaire game and one of those color by numbers things (pencils instead of paint) to keep me busy in the evening. Not that I don't have plenty of housework to be done.

Last night I went to my parents' house, and they were making pizza. I just wanted to lick it to get the flavor -- but thankfully for them, I resisted the urge.

My bariatric clinic has a rule that you cannot gain more than 5 pounds prior to surgery, or its cancelled. This has made me really obsessive with the scale. Granted, the liquid diet should make me lose a few pounds, but ya can't help but worry! I'm one of those types that just looks at food and gains weight. This is my biggest stressor at the moment. Otherwise, I think I'm ready.......:nervous

PB is a productive burp, it is when food you have eaten comes back up but there is nothing else mixed with it like digestive fluids stage before throwing up because the food hasn't reached the lower part of the stomach. If you eat slowly and chew chew chew you can avoid PBing.

The herina repair is just one stich nothing to fret over. Good Luck!

PBing sounds not nice. YUCK!!

Thanks for letting me know!

I wish the hernia was just a stitch! It is bowling ball size on the outside, the Dr. really doesn't know what it will look like when she gets in. This is from some major complications I had from surgery in 2003. So I guess it is the fear of the unknown that looms for me!!!

Thanks again!!

Jane

I got Centrum's Citrus Cherry chewable multi-vitamins. They're pretty good. Then I saw it says "+50", so it's for people over 50! (This is not the first time I've done this in the Vitamin world), so I went to a vitamin shop and got another one. The different is, the normal one has more % of stuff, and the +50 doesn't have Iron in it. So, I tried the new one, it was pretty nasty..tasted very vitamin-icky. The doctor said yesterday we can take 1 normal adult or 2 childrens. I use to love Flintstone's Vitamins, so I'm just going to go get a bottle of that and take 2 a day.

-----

Just checked bariatriceating.com again, they now have a 'shipped' status. Tracking shows it will be shipped today. Little miffed, delivery isn't scheduled until next week. They could have at least sent it faster on their dime to make up for losing my order. I don't plan on using them again :D Anyone know of another place that is more reliable?

GOOD MORNING!

I am so glad everyone seems to be doing great after their surgeries!

Mango Peach Isopure is pretty good. (Trying PinappleOrangeBanna today)

Front yard is getting dug up as I type this...... I'm safely at work, and crossing my fingers that the collapse is not under the city street.

ONE Week from today I go for my pre-op bloodwork, and TWO weeks from today I will be in recovery by this time! It is really starting to hit home now..... Today is the day I am OFFICIALLY to start the pre-op, so I feel good that I started early....... its serious NOW.

Jennifer: 31 pounds down ALREADY!!!! you rock!

Kat: thanks for that great post! I can't wait for the day that I don't care who eats what and who gets the big piece of WHATEVER!

I hope Christy and Ross are doing OK down in Mexico hopefully our newly banded duo will fare as good as Panda and Darla!

KEEP THE POSTS COMING!!!!!

My Centrum chewable is sort of orange flavored. I guess I'm sort of odd -- I don't mind the flavor (sort of like an off Sweet Tart). I just wish they had fun shapes like the kids' ones (like Brad Pitt or George Clooney! :lol )

Another day, another emotion!

:update:

After additional documentation of weight-loss attempts going all the way back to 2000, and after clearly & succinctly documenting all "medically supervised weight loss efforts" since last September thru 'til today, and after going to see my pcp at lunchtime & getting additional notes from her... and faxing all this to my insurance co at 1pm... the coordinator just called me to tell me that I am:

APPROVED!

:clap2: :cheer2: :banana :bounce:

As bad as I felt on Tuesday, I feel that happy right now! Thank you, thank you, thank you to each of you who encouraged me and sent my cyberhugs and pm's and kept me in your good thoughts! I don't know what I'd do without this board & all of you in this thread. I've completed all my pre-op testing, so there is still a *slim* chance that I'll be an April bander... altho May or June is probably more likely. Whatever!! Just to know that it will be done has lightened my heart and strengthened my resolve to be a good WLS patient and KEEP to the pre-op plan... now that I know the goal is in sight, I know it will be soooooooooo much easier to "behave" in regards to food.< /span>

Thank you all again!!!

Michelle I am so happy for you!!!!! YEA!!!!!! I am on quick replay or I'd add you some dancing nanners!!! You know it doesn't matter when you end up banded---you belong here!!! I am just so relieved for you----what a week you had!!!

Tracy---you and your poor Dbf----still messing with the plumbing---and that just plain sucks no matter what, where or when. There is no upside to it---I'm sorry it is still plagueing you!

Jane---goodness, I sure understand your fear---but can you just imagine it fixed and gone? It will be worth the extra work, and even just a bit more ouch factor---to have it off of you! Will be thinking of you!

As for vitamins---I do chew 2 childrens Vitamins a day!!! I do a viactiv (or store brand equivalent) Calcium chew, sublingual Vitamin b complex. And if I am around a lot of colds, I do the Vitamin C strips---like listerine strips. For Tylenol, the liquid is available in several formulas---regular, sinus, cold....at Walgreens, and some Walmarts. They also make a chewable adult Tylenol, called Go Tabs. They are pretty nasty, but they work, and are handy to carry around in a purse or a glove compartment, etc.

There are more and more things available in chewable or liquid....the pharmacist told me it was because society is aging more than ever, and it is needed......I think there are more of US!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
