Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Singdeborah~

I have only told a few people who I know will be positive and supportive.

I have not talked to the one friend since she had her fit over the surgery. At this point she does not even know that it is scheduled. She only knows that I was thinking about it. It's not worth it. I don't see or talk with her very often anymore.

Thanks for your supportive words!!

Julz

I am encouraged by your post. I am starting out now too, and am another over 40 person with little time left to make a really serious change, and nothing else has worked. I want to be off my meds!!!! And be able to keep of with my grandbabies. They are so cute and I don't want to be an old fuddy duddy. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it. I'm not scheduled yet, but I feel it will be in April. Things are going smoothly so far and so....perhaps it'll be then.

I have had my initial appt, and am working on getting all the other surgeries done. You know it's very interesting that I have to go through all these tests just to get this surgery, but other surgeries don't require that, like plastic surgery (which can be life changing), abortion, hysterectomy, ohhh a multitude of things, but we that are overweight have to get a battery of tests to see if we are sane enough to have this surgery.

More money for the medical profession I presume?? I understand the sleep study and blood tests etc, but the psych eval?? I don't think they really ever turn anyone down do they?

I'M TORN: EAT like there's no tomarrow? or eat like I'm post-op and filled? ...

Be bad while I still can? or show myself how disciplined I can be? ....

Anyone else have this conflict 10 days before liquid diet time??????

I am right there with you. I am also torn. But the thing that keeps me up at night, is how to face my surgeon if I gain weight before surgery!!!!

I have to do the 10 day pre-op liquid diet, too, but doc did not say how much I needed to lose during that time, but I am guessing it's at least 10-15 pounds, right? (Does anyone know?) So if I indulge now, like I am dying to do, then I will not be 10-15 pounds below my consult weigh-in.

hmmmm...

Schexy,

I was told to lose 5% of my current weight. I am hoping that the 12 day pre-op liquid diet does the trick. :)

I varies from Dr to Dr. My Doc wants me to lose 10% which is 25lbs. My surgery is April 2nd. The nurse told me that he turned away 3 people 2 weeks ago because they only lost a few lbs. I'm on a high Protein diet right now.

HAPPY MONDAY MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is going to be sunny and 70 degrees here today, and I have a huge case of Cabin fever! Last fall we bought a used camper and the week before my surgery we are planning to break it in! (originaly we had planned to camp the following weekend but I don't think that I'd be up for it a week post op) I am ready to take this weight off for once an all... I am so tired of losing and then regaining.

Have great day!

Hey everyone

I have been off for a few days - I was having computer problems but really missed checking in. I went to the gym 4 days last week - so I thank that challange for that!

I am so excited about this, as I am sure you all know that feeling, but with going through this process I have been looking at myself and have realized some things that I should have delt with years ago, (and maybe if i did I would not be where I am today), so I started back to my head dr last week and when I was so excited, I am now just so overwhelmed by my lack of self confidence and how long I have felt this way. I knew these issues were here and I was trying to get past them for my great future, of being thinner and healthier, but since i opened up a door I am just so sad and can't stop crying.

I hope that this is just a short term thing, since I had to actually look some hard truths in the eye this past week, and I will wake up one day really soon and see what a great thing this is.

Does anyone else have any emotional things going on? Not that I mean to pry, but everyone all seems so positive all the time and I feel like i'm the only one having a complete mental breakdown.

I so know this is the best thing in the world - and my self image will imporve my self esteem issues, it is just working through things. Maybe it is good that I am dealing before surgery and not after when I might think I made the wrong decision or having a meltdown after surgery.

This is such a great group, and the support and even knowing i am not the only one is so much help

Jennifur: YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!!!

I am so down on myself it is not even funny..... I won't go into all the gory details, but all I want to is sleep.. I know it is because I am now at an all time high weight and this time two years ago I was getting into size 10's!!!!! (after losing over 80 on Low Carbing) this year I don't even have a short sleeved shirt that is long enough to cover my belly, but I refuse to buy anything new because I KNOW that I will be losing over the next couple months. I am REALLY worried about my obsession with not wasting food... I am REALLY worried that my new way of eating is going to affect my relationship with my dbf... he does most of the cooking and he makes all the high carb comfort food and then gets offended when I don't eat it, and he makes too much and then doens't put it away or lets it go to waste.. (drives me crazy) We have been talking about these huge differences, but he has flat out said that he doesn't think he can cook any different....... (and he turns his nose up at things I cook) for instance he doesn't eat Pork of any kind....... chicken is BONELESS breasts ONLY...... hamburger is meant to make spaghetti, sloppy joes, hamburger helper.....(he is in a major cooking rut)

He says he's supportive but he admits its going to be hard for him to see me NOT eat........

Not to mention that it is going to be REALLY hard for me to pay a full price for a buffet and not be albe to "get my moneys' worth!! (I even hate it when the kids waste food there)

ok down off my soap box NOW!

See your not the only one with head issues. :)

Thanks - I am sorry, but glad to know I am not the only one, because I was beginning to feel that way. I too, only 4 short years ago, before I got pregnant was in a size 12 and very happy, and that was after much hard work, but after he was born, I have done the same things and they didn't work.

I look like I've been beat my eyes are so swollen from crying, and as i told my mother all my deep dark secrets, I had her crying with me and she now understands my breakdowns over the last 30 years.

going to be a great future for all of us... just getting there is the journey!

Hey Guys don't beat yourselves up - since I have been there just a short year ago I know how you're feeling. No one wants to say it - but you are at the last resort stage just like we 2006'ers were at this time last year.........who but "us" knows that in order to put our bodies thru surgery and to admit that we just can't do it ourselves is anyplace other - "at the last resort stage".........................you have to be there! It's like going on a "10 steps" program.................giving it over! Very enotional time for you all - Try to keep calm - you are all doing a great job getting ready - learning the "rules", thinking about and doing some exercise..................JUST YOU WAIT - YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL YEAR and life AHEAD - the band and all these great people will help you to a thin, healthy future.

I've been a b*tch all week, feeling down and wondered if it had anything to do with my upcoming surgery. I can't put my finger on it. And yes, I feel like crawling into bed, too. :phanvan

Guysis, thanks for checking up on us and for your insight. Do you mind holding our hands just a few more weeks??

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
