How is your blood sugar? What are your numbers? I was taken offs boat load of diabetes meds the day out of the hospital.y bgs have been from 95 to 154.

Teresa

They gave me 2 insulin shots in hospital. My sugar only got to around 165 they said was high. Considering the highs i used to have over 200 i thought 165 was ok. I am supposed to take my metformin at home but have a hard time with it getting down even cutting it in half's. But i think its running ok. I need to get in habit of checking it 2 and 3 times a day

I also had to have one shot of insulin in the hospital during the night of my surgery date (4th). Sugar came down and has since stayed within the 80's and 90's so I haven't taken any diabetic meds. Pre-surgery I was taking 1000 mg of Janumet 2x daily. They told me to test 4 times a day post-surgery (which I haven't been doing), although I do test..just not as often. I've had two episodes of hypoglycemia but realize now that my ingested carbs might have been too high which later caused the sudden drop. Obviously, something I ingested was a little too high in carbs. So I am now being more diligent. There was a history of reactive hypoglycemia that preceded my diabetes. Guess it will revert back to that if I'm not careful. So are you to take your medicine regardless of your glucose levels? Seems to me like you should only take it if your glucose is staying elevated. I'm sure either way it won't be much too long that you will needing any of the diabetic meds. Glad to know you are doing well. Your recovery seems to be going well, so far! Thoughts are with you!

Thanks Gen!! I just hope when I start eating, it stays that way! That is my biggest fear!

I definitely DON'T have permission to eat anything I want, my sugar DOES increase according to the carb amount. Having the surgery was NOT my free pass. Now, I am finally getting that message. Yikes!

For those of you who might be interested there are a couple books you can buy or get for your kindle through Amazon. One is called Mindful Eating by Jan Chozen Bays, MD and the other one is Never Goin' Back by Al Roker from the Today Show (he had gastric bypass, too!) I got them both on my Kindle and hope to start reading this weekend. Check them out! Tell me what you think---but if you read them don't give away the storyline!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
