Does Anyone Else Feel Like They'll Never Be "skinny"?

Recommended Posts

I hope I don't bring anyone down by this thread but man sometimes I feel like i'll never actually be thin. Not that I won't lose the weight, but that I'll somehow still be chubby at 135 (I'm 5'8"). I'm 180 now (which I should be thrilled about because I'm at my high school weight which I thought I looked good at) but I still feel so fat and my lower stomach still hangs and humph :| I feel like I

I'll be at a small weight but always be fat... sucks.!

I feel that way all of the time even after losing 93 lbs....but I keep reminding myself that I'm a far cry from where I was and I'm not gonna have the body of a young girl at 43 years of age. Self acceptance and gratitude come into play also. I weigh 193 lbs down from 285. According to my BMI I am still obese (not morbidly obese anymore!) 7 1/2 months out. But if I never lose another ounce I thank God everyday for every ounce pound and inch that I have lost! :)

I think that we get so focused on this because our culture values the perfect body way too much. We begin to buy into this as young girls and it carries into our adult life. We may be overweight and are teased or lack male attention and through that process we devalue ourselves as less than perfect somehow flawed. Now we begin the process of losing weight and our brains are still convinced we are flawed and we struggle with success because perfection is not the result. We have flabby arms and hanging bellys way short of the ideal and we cannot see the body change as success because it is not perfection. I think the key to some of this for me at least is to not focus on our flaws, hanging skin etc. but on the internal changes, the new self image we can construct and begin to affirm the positive changes we see. As overweight people we often become too self absorbed and perhaps need to look for ways to focus on others through activities, volunteer or social activities that will keep us other oriented and less worried about ourselves. Find our joy and the flaws will seem minor compared to our victories. At least ths has helped me deal with the thoughts I will never be skinny.

I think lots of use feel that way and I know I can get there because I was there before so its not a impossibility You are tall so you probably carry it really well. Be happy with what ever weight you settle at because you will know you did what it takes... diet, exercise, and maybe even skin removal surgery. I know I get motivated when I set goals and I have a focus... I get very determined. Just do the best you can possibly do... :)

You are not alone!! I think it's important to express how u feel. I'm scared of gaining my weight back already and I'm not even six months out from surgery.

I am there too...stuck at 185, went up from 183 two weeks ago, and in a major stall. Coworker (who also had GB) suggested that maybe my honeymoon period is over after only 6 months...so I am getting frustrated.

I feel the same way! Nice to know I'm not alone. I started off at 298 and today i weighed 167... I may not look fat to other people anymore and my surgeon said I was at an average BMI. But my goal is 120 and I feel like I wont get there. Sounds selfish of me, I know. I should be greatful for all the weight I have already lost, Cus I couldn't have.done it.without surgery...

I would be sooo happy if I could just lose the bit of fat I still have in my tummy area! All I can do is keep trying! Lol

Hang in there girls! We can do it...

Have you tried going back to liquids to jump start the weight loss. I did that on my last stall and it worked. Also up the Protein, no sugar, no carbs and only Water. The minute I started eating brown rice or baked potato my weight loss stopped.

I completely agree with this. As soon as I eat stop doing heavy Protein and low carb/sweets I start gaining. All body types are different but u have learned my lesson.

Also, yes I am afraid I will never be thin. I carry a lot of weight in my arms and legs so I never look "thin". Even when I was 125 in high school no one believed me. But there's too many stories o people overcoming these obstacles with work. So we can do this!!!

I have not met anyone this journey that doesn't have some body issue. I am down 70 lbs! I am wearing clothes that have been put up for years. Formally tight t-shirts now fit like dresses! I look in the mirror and still see the fat me. Then there are other days the diva shows up to Celebrate my success! Hang in there.

I feel that way too and I'm at 147 lbs right now. I went shipping for a pair of pants because we were going to a family party and I had nothing that came close to fitting. I could wrap my brain around a size 8 "super skinny jean" at all. I kept swearing to the woman trying to convince me of this that I was a much larger size. Credit to her as she stood firm and held my hand while I teared up. I'm not sure why I teared up. Tears of sadness? Tears of joy? Mourning the loss? Shock and awe?! I've adjusted now ~ just in time because my relatively new size 8's are loose now too. I hope that my brain catches up with my heart, or maybe it's vice versa (?), soon ~ and that yours does too! <3

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
