Before Surgery

I have seen posts about tests prior to surgery. What tests are they? I have already done all tests besides psych evaluation. Are there other tests like a week or two after you get a surgery date?

Well for me I had to do pre-op testing two weeks before which consisted of bloodwork, chest xray and ekg. Plus a pre-op semnar my surgeon makes you go to at the hospital because they are a center of bariatric excellence. Sounds like you have done everything else!

Thanks my3. I already did a ekg. So probably just more blood work and a chest xray

I had to do a chest x-ray, blood work, ekg, ultrasound, and an upper GI. All that was my pre-op testing.

you have to go to a preop clss that will explain the actually surgery the expectation for after and ur health history

Thanks all. I found the website for the hospital and read what I need. The blood work and maybe a chest xray. 7-14 days prior to surgery date along with a educational session with the nurse

For pre op I had to see my regular Dr and then have blood work, EKG and a chest x-ray. I did this on Thursday. I know I passed the EKG and haven't heard back about my blood or x-ray.

Also I had to make an appt with the dietician to discuss and get things for the liquid diet. I go on Monday for this appt.

If I have to do a lot I sure hope it can be done same day. I live an hour from surgeon and hospital with round trip tolls 8 bucks!!

Most bariatric center/surgeons will work it out so you can have most of your tests on the same day or at least more than one. I know mine did because it took me so long to get to their office.

Pretesting or requirements for me were:

All day class, called Immersion Day, that explained all the surgeries, what to expect before, during and after as well as going over the food stages.

Ultrasound of liver, abdomin etc.

Blood work

Attend a post op support meeting

Psych eval and psych visit

Physical with surgeon

Letter of Med release from PCP

Chest Xray

Nutritionist visits - 2

Hmmm I think that's all of it.

Its a lung function test more or less

I was told I needed a cardiology clearance before I would get a surgery date (appointment for that is this afternoon) however since they feel I will pass that with no problems today, she has me going in for the UGI, blood tests and radiology tomorrow and an appointment with my primary dr on Wednesday. I was told I would more than likely get a surgery date in September.

I had to have a cardiology clearance as well, had to do a stress test.

The clearance was that just an EKG?

Not sure yet, I'll let you know later this evening. My appointment is at 4pm and I'm in CA.
