Before Surgery

I have seen posts about tests prior to surgery. What tests are they? I have already done all tests besides psych evaluation. Are there other tests like a week or two after you get a surgery date?

No I won't get a date till end of October or November

Oh, bummer it will fly by though. Its looking like I'm gonna have to wait longer than I thought. My potassium levels were low so my dr changed a prescription today and I start it tomorrow along with the stress test and have to get blood drawn next Friday to see if my potassium level is ok.

I've just quit with being over anxious and decided I'd rather be as healthy as I can be before surgery. I don't want to risk it. So I wait and follow directions...

I think my potassium is low too. I am on fluid pill with my high blood pressure pills and I am not consuming enough food with potassium right now. I have potassium vitamins just don't know if I should take 1 or 2 of them daily

I had no idea how sensitive we can be with potassium. Do not take the supplements without talking to your Dr. It's crazy! Read up on low and high potassium. My Dr told me today not to take the supplements, she just changed my medication and said we don't want it to go too high either. I guess it's supposed to be 3.5 - 5 and mine was at 3. The surgeons office was very concerned with that and won't do the surgery until its in normal range.

It's very dangerous if it spikes and or drops too low. So be very careful with that.

Well before my pcp said to eat a banana a day to help with potassium loss due to meds so I am going to start taking one potassium supplement till I her bananas. I don't need this being something that delays me getting surgery So i am going to try and fix it. I don't go till the 24th for monthly weigh in and I will sure be armed with a lot of questions for the NP

Passed the stress test today, now onto the potassium check next Friday :/
