Banded Bikers II

Recommended Posts

Surgery Center just called. I need to be there at 5:45 a.m. and my surgery is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. Holy crap! This time tomorrow I will be banded!!!! eek.gif

I've done everything I'm supposed to do. I have everything I need. I have people praying for a successful surgery. It's all in God's (and the surgeon's) hands now.

Right now my gut feels like it might feel when getting on a roller coaster ride that hasn't started yet. You are sitting in your seat, strapped in and waiting for the ride to start moving.

I hope this is worth it. I hope I'm successful. I hope I don't regret it. I hope a year from now I can look back and say it was the best thing I ever did for myself like I hear so many others say.

Here I go!

Good luck Karen! It'll go great for you tomorrow. And trust me, you won't need a year to say all those things. You'll be saying them within a month!

Steve, I hope you're doing well! It's a little rough at first but it passess quickly.

Hey Randy! Good to see your name! Ride was great. Doing another one this Sunday. Supposed to be 68 and partly cloudy. Should be a great day. I rode today to work. It was a bit cool this morning but not bad at all.

Ride safe everyone!

Karen, hope your surgery was ok. I can't imagine ANY surgery being good. My God, they cut you open! Just take the time to heal, follow the doctor's orders to the T. Joy did and she hasn't had one BIT of a problem. In no time, you'll be puttin' around again.

Karen,

Hope all is well with you, mine went fine. Only problem was I forgot the Mardi Gras beads for the nurses but told them I would bring them next visit! I posted in the guys section to give an update, also told how I went to an auction today after the wife told me I probably hadnt ought to . . . . . . . . she "might" of been right!

I think I'll rest for a few days and then venture out. After all, I have the winter off so why get in a hurry. She's even putting wood on the fire, life's good!

Good luck to all, Steve

Looks like I found my thread!

I'm not banded yet....have just started the process. I'm a freaking self-pay so hopefully the one up side of that is that it can move a little faster!

Been an HD rider for about seven years.....on my second harley!

Also work for the local dealership......and I'm soooooooooooo looking forward to the days that I will be able to pick anything up off the rack and it will FIT!

Also looking forward to visiting with fellow bikers.....

HarleyGirl, welcome. Things here tend to take spurts. I guess it has something to do with the weather. When it's good, not much happening. What part of the country are you from? Central Texas here. '98 Roadking Classic.

We have a place in Texas, I would consider central----a little town called Comanche....near Brownwood, or Stephenville. We keep talking about riding down one of our trips, but no matter when we go, we have work to do, so need the truck!!!

Steve glad to hear you're doing well.

Harley girl! Welcome! I'm jealous of you working at a dealership. I think that would be a blast, not to mention the discount...lol

To all our frozen friends, be patient because your spring will be there before you know it and then I expect to hear a lot about butts on bikes!

Peace to all and ride safe!

Welcome Harley Girl! I was self pay as well and it went extremely fast. Less than a month from my orientation meeting until my surgery which was on Thursday! I hear you about being able to find things that fit at the Harley store! They have gotten better but there are still a lot of things that I would like to wear that I know would look like crap on a fat chick so I have just abstained. Can't wait to wear sexy leathers while ridin! Know what I mean?

So uh Steve, what did the nurses have to do to get those Mardis Gras beads from you?????

I'm actually going over to friend's house tonight for a bit and even went out in the backyard to clear out the land mines from the dogs this afternoon! (The DH just isn't very good with that kind of thing).

The way I'm feeling right now I'm thinking that I should be back on my bike by next weekend easy!!!!

Enjoy that fire!!!

I don't care what the stupid ground hog said......here in Florida it's in the 70's, the pollen is making everything yellow and the azaleas are blooming everywhere. Spring is sprunging around here already, although a later cold snap inevitably comes around bike week!

Oh and NASCAR season starts tonight with the Bud Shootout so life is gearing up down here in the deep south. I'll try to make sure it works it's way up to you guys!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
