Jeans are a nightmare for me. My legs are usually too long for "averages", and a little too short for "talls". No problem, I usually just get the talls and be sure to wear a heel. And if the jeans fit in my hips, they're gaping in the waist.
I have basically the same problem in a lot of store. The averages are too long, but the petites are too short, in many cases. Unless I am in Lane Bryant, where the petites are too long, also. I have the opposite problem with the waist/hips issue. If I can find jeans that fit my waist, they are too baggy in the hips and butt. If they fit my hips and butt, they are too small for my waist.

I also have the "B" shaped stomach, but since I am on the short side, the low rise pants actually look half-way decent on me. Of course, they don't look like low-rise, since they come up to my waist! That's the one time I can actually find jeans that fit both my hips/butt and waist.

I wish that manufacturers would make women's pants like they do men's. You know, where you can get different inseam lengths with different waist measurements. But no, they want to make women feel bad because they have to buy crappy-fitting pants.

Don't forget "could care less". I don't care what anyone says, that isn't the correct phrase! The correct one is "couldn't care less", because you are trying to say that you literally don't care about something. If you say "could care less", you are saying that you do care.

Amen, sister! I've even seen it put that way in books. Surely if the author writes that poorly, the editor should have caught it?

I've tried correcting people when they say they 'could care less'. I ask how much less and I always get a blank stare. Come on, aren't you listening to what comes out of your mouth? Just because 99% of people say it wrong doesn't mean you have to parrot them!

Good gripe! Not life-threatening, but irritating as he**.

Oh Green I have four boat neck 3/4 sleeve T's, I've got black, white, chocolate brown and jade green!

Although I like a deep scoop neck personally, whilst I can still get away with it. My chest is even the tiniest bit bony now, and I get a sick pleasure out of that!

Green is green with envy. It looks like she is goin' to have to go to Oz to do her shopping!:)

Yes, I snap at that one too. When someone says, "I couldn't care less", it's like -- "Cool, then you agree with me!"

Here are some that have come up recently (though maybe I've already mentioned them, can't remember)

Insure is to protect against loss, as in "your policy will insure against damages." Ensure means to make certain of, as in "Please ensure the reports are done by Friday." I constantly see them used in reverse, even in publications.

And I also see references to things that are wreckless - wreckless behavior, wreckless actions, etc. None of things can be "without wreck". It's RECKLESS.

Accept means to take or receive, except means without. You don't except an invitation, and you don't like all vegetables accept broccoli.

And a super biggun for me -- affect vs. effect.

Affect refers to things that act upon something else, things are impacted, e.g. you have a chest cold is affecting your lungs. Affect can also refer to things of an emotional nature, such as the affective domain, or having a flat affect, or an affective response. Affect can also be used similar to "pretend" -- you could affect disgust.

Effect has much broader application -- bringing something about, a consequence, an appearance, etc.

Wars affect everyone, and their destructive effects last for generations.

My God, yes. All of these things bug me, too, which is another reason I tend to take over the editing role in group projects. You wouldn't believe some of the crap that people write. I don't want their horrid grammar and spelling to lower my grade. I simply don't want to put my name on something with those mistakes, especially since they are fairly easily caught.

How about judgement? It seems that most people outside the legal industry don't know that there's only one "e" in judgment.

It also irritates me that I can rarely read a news article on the internet without finding a grammatical error. It seems that everyone relies on their Spell Checker. Don't they have editors or proofreaders anymore?

People who jack up their pickup trucks with "Off the Road" springs, shocks and other kits, so that the bumper of the truck is higher than or even with my head while I am sitting in my Camry or my S10 pickup.

These vehicles are deadly to anyone they hit because they will roll right up on top of any normal vehicle.

I have actually seen trucks with signs that say, "Laugh, but I will Live and You will die" and similar writings on them. I have talked with some of the owners and they say they would rather live through an accident and don't care if the other car's occupants die.

There was a law passed about 25 years ago mandating that all cars have the same bumper hight, so that the impact of a crash would be absorbed by the bumpers, but pickup truck are exempt, even though most of the pickup trucks around here are used as cars, not trucks.

Ok here's one that maybe I just don't get, more so than is a peeve... but it could be well on its way... I don't even know what they're called. Poeple here put them on their trucks or jeeps... brightly colored plastic "scrotum" that hang from their tow hitches, boats, etc. I googled "truck balls" and found a picture:

Here are my pet peeves:

I work in a children's hospital. I get so pissed when parents insist on doing EVERYTHING for a child who has NO CHANCE at a meaningful recovery and then when they are left with a severely disabled and brain damaged child, they refuse to take them home. WTF? We gave you the option of not putting your kid through all this and you chose to be SELFISH and now you want him placed in a nursing home or in medical foster care?

I am also disgusted by people who mistreat animals or who give them away because they no longer fit into the family lifestyle. Our dog is a member of our family that we'd be heartbroken without.

WAL-MART...Everytime I go there, I swear I'll never return. Its dirty, there is stuff everywhere in my way, and the lines are out of control. They couldn't care less if you wait for 45 minutes or longer. I swear they have THE WORST customer service I've ever encountered and yet people keep returning there and making them more rich!

Unsupervised children! The other night we were at a furniture store with our two children who were walking politely along next to us and the strangest thing happened. This child skates by us on some heeleys and almost knocks us down. He circles and comes flying back at us again. I look around, expecting to see his parents. There are no adults in sight. So, here is this child of about 6 years old, flying through a store with glass tables and mirrors everywhere on roller shoes. I went off and asked him where on earth his mother was and why she thought it was even remotely appropriate for him to by flying through a furniture store on skates!!!

Beggars...I detest people who solicit. PERIOD! Don't beg me for money for gas to get to Oklahoma, or money for something to eat because you are a vietnam vet (aren't they all?:) ) or because your church is having a fund raiser and you need to sell 100 candy bars by next week!!! If I wanted to buy candy, I'd buy it in the Wal-Mart. But, I'm walking in and I see your table and if I wanted anything you were selling, I'd come to you. I don't need you to shout, "Excuse me, Mam, wanna buy some candy for a great cause?" . Don't call my house and keep talking after I tell you I'm not interested or worse argue with me when I say I'm not interested.

Did I mention that I HATE those heeleys?

I hate it when companies help to bastardize the language in order to get a one-up on the competition.

Example: I go into a fast food place and ask for a Medium coffee. They give me a very small cup. I ask them what the small cup looks like and they tell me that they do not carry small.

"So this is your small cup" I say.

"No it is medium."

"Is this the smallest cup that you have?"

"Yes, but it is medium."

"Do you know what the word 'medium' means?"

"Yes. The size of this cup."

"No, it means something in the middle. This cup can not be a medium if there is nothing smaller."

Many years ago, when I was about 10 or 11, my mother sent me to the drugstore on our block and told me to buy a "Large" tube of toothpaste (I believe Pepsodent, but it is not important). I came back with a very small tube. Back in those days (mid 1950's) the companies were on a kick similar to the coffee cup story I just related, so that brand of toothpaste came in Large, Giant size and Family size, but how was I a child or my mother to know that small and medium were nonexistent?

When I was 22, I took a part time job in an auto parts store to help pay for the birth of my son, which was not covered by my medical plan because I had only been working as an aircraft mechanic for 5 months when he was born. My best friend used to drag race cars at the drag-strip and he had been having a run of bad luck (he thought). He had blown his 327 Chevy engine 3 weeks in a row and he had to rebuild the engine each week.

He had been going into the auto parts store where I just started working each week and asking the older man who worked there for "Heavy Duty" rod and main bearings for a 1964 327 Chevy engine. When he came in this time he asked me for the same thing. When I looked it up in the catalog, I found that "Heavy Duty" was the cheapest bearings that the company made. The description was: "Heavy Duty"; an economical grade just below OEM (manufacturer's specifications). The bearings were listed as "Heavy Duty", OEM, Quality and Clevite (Racing quality) in order of ascending quality.

What is wrong with the terms small, medium and large?

Why is "Heavy Duty" actually the lowest quality.

Not true. Judgement can be spelled with or w/out the first e. The Brits do it all the time. Here's what the Brittanica has to say: http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9044086/judgment :speechles

In the American legal system, "judgement" is unacceptable. It's kind of the same as "all right" and "alright." If I put "judgement" and "alright" in a brief, I would not be making a good impression on the judge.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
