Hi all!

First off I want you all to know how much I care for all of you and the great support and friends you are! That said, I need to get a little info, and advice if you will. My surgery was MAY 1. I am 8 days post op and they have just started letting me eat something besides Popsicles and Jello. I had some oatmeal and yogurt this morning. My portion sizes are 2 tablespoons of each, and I don't drink with meals or 30 minutes after. Thing is. I can't tell if I'm hungry or not after this. I know I still fantasize about a tenderloin sandwich with fries. What size portions do you all eat and how can I tell...hungry or not?

Not to be funny or anything but if you can't tell...that means you're not hungry... lol

I believe that u shouldn't be eating more than a 1/4-1/2 cup per meal at one week post open but every surgeon is different

I am totally with you. I had surgery May 3rd and I am still trying to learn my system. I have "head hunger" cravings like French fries and burritos but when I sit down to eat, I am barely getting in 2 oz of Soup. I am struggling to meet the requirements given by my surgeon. It is so strange to not want to eat at all. And to realize the cravings in my head have nothing to do with my appetite.

Right there with you girls! I had surrey April 23 and was able to start a few foods today. I didn't know how slow to go and didn't want to overeat amd couldn't tell either. I had 1/2 scrambeled egg and stopped and within 5 mts I was full. It's so hard! Head hunger is the worst! I hope that gets better for all of us! Good luck!

I think it's just my pre surgery mentality that 4 tablespoons of food per meal isn't enough, when I'm sure it is.

I agree with panda if you don't know if your hungry then most likely you are not! I still to this day have head hunger I will crave things...sometimes...but not because I am hungry because I still sometimes can't tell the difference between head hunger and actual hunger! The thing I do when I am craving something I eat a healthy snack, Protein bar or Protein shake and once my belly gets full I guess it sends those signals to my brain and then whatever I was craving for goes away like I am fully satisfied! It's so strange to feel that way but when I have the head hunger for bad things but eat the good things and it makes it go away it lets me know that they were indeed head hunger and not real hunger!!

Head hunger CAN be tough to say the least. I had it with my lapband and heck still do. One thing I try to do is when I start craving something or "think" I'm hungry, I'll sip at my Water more. If after a few sips it goes away then it's head hunger...if it's still there and my stomach feels achy then I know I'm really hungry.

Hopefully that will still work for me when I have the RNY

When was your surgery Vamp? I sometimes think I could eat more, like your oatmeal, but I'm only 8 days out, and I'm really having a hard time finding a shake I dont have to gag down

I had my surgery on 01/11/12 so I'm 17 weeks post op! I still have trouble drinking the shakes my favorite ones are Syntrax they taste like milkshakes and it makes it a lot easier to get down!

I had my surgery on April 23 and I only eat the amount the doctors say. Although I have a really hard time eating that much. I know I'm not eating as much as I should or as often as I should but it's do hard when I never feel hungry. I'm definitely drinking as much as I should though. And my Protein Shakes are no where close to what I'm supposed to be consuming.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
