I'm 2 and a half month post op, and I'm really worried about Hair loss I've heard it normally happens at 3 months! Has any one experienced it?? And does anyone know of any thing you can take to make it slow down (I know it can't be stopped if you get it) but dont know if there is something to help it. Currently I am taking forceval, calichew, evening primrose oil and cod liver oil with A-Z Vitamins on a daily basis! :-) x

I experienced the same at about the same time. Double your Protein intake. You should always double scoop your drinks anyway, remember we no longer absorb nutrients as before so we have to injest higher levels of the things we need. Also I take 1mg of Biotein three times a day. It took about a month but my hair is getting fuller and the shedding has slowed to a near normal rate. I am nearly seven months out and 84 lbs down...it's worth it!

I am from Raleigh NC. I can't believe your doc did not advise Protein shakes! I have several friends in different states that have had the surgery and everyone has been told to have at least two Protein drinks daily.

Hey Greenville!

JemJem, I am told we need to injest 70 to 90 grams of Protein daily. There is no way I could possibly eat that much, my pouch would be stretched so far our it would be like I didn't even have the surgery.

I drink two shakes a day minimum. I double scoop them so with just those two drinks I am getting 100 gms Protein in addition to the protein I am eating. On my six month blood work my protein levels wew right in the mid range of normal so my doc is happy with the way I am following the nutrition plan.

All I know for sure was when I increased protein and take my supplements as ordered my hair loss quickly stopped and has grown back in. As Greenville sai...bald and skinny wasn't a look I wanted either lol

Good luck with your journey. I have learned a lot about myself over the past eight months and am happy to share or encourage any time.

I would never reach my Protein goal without shakes...I use unflavored and drink it in Vitamin Water from Costco....water , Vitamins, and protein....can't lose. Just remember we can only take in 49/45g. Of protein at a time; anymore isn't absorbed.

So the thing with Hair loss is that there is a 2 months delay in results. So if you start today and get in the required Protein amount tomorrow your hair may still fall out. If you have been getting in your protein you should be just fine. If you have not - there is no time like the present.

Protein helps us in so many ways and is a must have post op. Every doc is different so please go with the suggestions of your doc. They know what they did to you and are basing their recommendations on their experience.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
