Daily Miralax

Recommended Posts

I have been plagued by very bad Constipation since my surgery two months ago. My doctor said to try Miralax. Several doses later and, ahh, sweet relief. However, as soon as I stop taking it the constipation returns. My doctor has said that I can take daily Miralax for life if I need to. Has anyone else been told this by their doctor? I am reluctant use daily, chemical laxative if there are other choices. Daily prunes, high Fiber Cereal, and plenty of Water have not been sufficient to ease my pain. Miralax is very effective but a bit spooky for me to take daily. What is your experience?

I'm going through something very similar... My doc told me only to take Miralax for 3 days though and then stop... I went today but not much... Someone else on here recommended Smooth Move which is a natural tea... They said it works very well... I have yet to try it because I just stopped the Miralax... I also take 200 mg of Colace a day still... I also take GasX daily to prevent gas pressure and bloating... It seems to be a common problem until you are a regular diet for a while... I'm only 16 days out... Good luck!

Gelatin powder or black sesame seeds are good natural methods to get things moving down south. I think gelatin works faster, and it has great benefits otherwise.

This is gonna be TMI, but after a few weeks of starting the no carb diet, I had it so bad that my bum was bleeding! Drinking a lot more Water has helped. I'm sorry if this doesn't help you.

I have taken miralax every day since my surgery last September. My doctor also said you can take it forever. Be careful with teas as they are harmful for the colon, not natural at all.

My NUT recommends aloe juice, but I haven't tried it yet. Been struggling through. Eating a serving of dry roasted edamame on most days helps me.

My gastroenterologist told me to take Miralax every day. It's an osmotic, which means it draws Water into the digestive tract. I wouldn't recommend Smooth Move (contains senna) for long term or even regular use, but I have used it every few weeks in the past. I have chronic issues that the surgery has made worse. The only long term solution that has worked for me is a smoothly that was recommended to me by an acupuncturist.

1/2 cup papaya (I buy a whole one and cut it up and freeze it)

1/4 cup aloe vera juice

4 prunes

1/4 cup of juice (anything you have on hand. I use cranberry or apple)

Blend in a blender. You may need to add a little bit of Water to make it blend better. Add stevia or Splenda if it's not sweet enough. The whole thing will have about 150 calories.

I love the taste of it. After 3 or 4 days you will be going like clockwork!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
