March 2007 Bandsters

I wanted to start a thread for those of us who are waiting "with bated breath" for our surgeries in March.

I am supposed to start Optifast on February 26th. I am currently waiting for the shipment, including my surgical package to be delivered. Once I get my package I am supposed to call the clinic.

Ever since committing to this surgery (which I am paying for myself via a personal loan) I have been obsessed with reading everything I can about it and about people who have had it. I am still kind of hoping for some kind of "divine word" about whether or not it is the right thing for me to do.

I am "only" 75 lbs over my ideal weight but am type II diabetic. I am trying to figure out if my reason for doing this is my health or my vanity or a combination of both. The diabetes needs to be gone (when I am 20 lbs lighter it is gone) but I am sure looking forward to losing the weight and actually keeping it off for more than 20 minutes...

Hello March Bandsters !!!

Well the train to Bandland is pulling out in the morning! All March Bandsters get on board! This is sooo exciting! You guys are all smart (you wouldn't spend so much time researching this procedure and hanging out on this board if you were not highly intelligent individuals) brave, beautiful and motivated band sisters. I raise my protien shake and offer a toast to my fellow March Band Sisters and say cheers to you, and may we all be big FAT losers in 2007. Teresa

I have been feeling a little down in the dumps and you have really lifted my spirits. The train to bandland is on the move now! I loved this...Thank-you!!! :)

Kyethra, Today is a new day! I start full liquids today so I'm right there with ya! :)

laralynn86, Don't be so hard on yourself. You know what you are going to have to give up and the fact that you are still taking this step to change your life speaks for itself. You are going to do great! :scared:

Sophie248, Glad to hear you are still on for March 5th! WOOOHOOOOOO!!! :clap2:

Just wanted to pop on and say "Congrats to the "March First-ers" (good on hlayne).

My boss called me this morning and said not to come in becasue of the snow. I can't even see across the street it is blowing soooo much. I think was have about 1 foot already and it is comming down about an inch an hour. To top it all off, i was planning on strating my shakes today and am out of milk. Well, I hope they taste fine with water, we will see. We are also re-doing our kitchen and will be without a working one for at least a week. So I went out and pickuped so Smart Ones, Lean Cousines (sp) and Healthy Choice TV dinners for myself and Hungery Man, canned pasta and other microwave food for the rest of the family.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Brandi and this is my first post. Thanks to everyone for all the great info out there. I go for my pre-op apt on the 7th and my surgery is scheduled for the 14th. I am not quite sure what to expect but I am excited also. I was reading the list of pointers but any additional advice would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to make a list to start getting this weekend so I will be somewhat prepared.

Thanks,

Brandi :clap2:

I think today is going to be my worst day. What is it now.. technically my 2nd day post? surgery was Tuesday. ANywho.. I woke up feeling like acj_monkey.gif pack of wild cj_monkey.gifdrunk cj_monkey.gifmonkeys cj_monkey.gifwas partying in cj_monkey.gifmy abdomen all night. cj_monkey.gif

The part up by my ribcage/diaphram where the ports located is hard and swollen and all my other places I didn't feel before are starting to protest. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little better.. I'm having a few minor gas pains for the 1st time today too. It's v. uncomfy to breath deep at all and I lose my breath v. easily.

Also, it is v. uncomfortable when my stomach starts growling It almost hurts... and I'm just on liquids right now so that's a lot. I shall prevail though.... sniffak_crying.gif

Synicalchk;

I think what you are describing is the gas moving around and getting through your system. And it is right on time, so better days are ahead.

Take some gas x strips and if you can drink warm beverages, heating pad, move around alot to move that gas out.

Sounds like you are on track...

Hi All,

Re Tammys and Mrs Huskers post about telling only people that need to know:

I was in an awkward situation yesterday, I told my boss that I was going to be off for 2 weeks in April, and he kept questioning me what it was for, so I told him...and do you know what he said?? Why dont you just diet!! So I said I have, for many many years and each time I lose the weight I put it back on and more some, and I have reached the stage that I need help....then he asked me what my BMI was and I explained that I didnt want to say, anyway he got it out of me, then he turned round and said well Sara...you may need to check this out with HR (as its my choice etc) I nearly exploded, and said Im doing it for health reasons, and my own Dr is supporting me and feels it is a good idea.....I just felt crap folks :)

You know what sweetie?? YOU DO NEED TO TALK TO HR>>> about your freaking Boss. He crossed all kinds of lines and could/should get into all kinds of trouble. You are not required by any law to discuss personal matters such as that. I am very angry about this... They are not or should not be allowed to do that.

grrrrrr
