Hey guys!!!!

Thick n Thin... You are 1 week ahead of me.... So funny because the first date they offered me was the 23rd bummer because we could have been hall walking buddies!!!! But I didn't want to be in the hospital for Christmas... I have 4 kids and I host Christmas dinner for the family.... Do you have to do a two week pre-op diet? I do... I am waiting on my PCP letter and my Pulmonologist clearance... Both will be done this week... Sorry I didn't write back sooner... Sometimes I don't get on here for a few days... We should try to meet up before surgery somewhere half way....

SandeeD.... Thank you ... I am excited and wigged out and ready and nervous and crazy!!! All at the same time!!! But we are all doing this for healthier lives so it all tends to fall into place... When is your surgery scheduled?? It's great we can all be there for each other... No matter how near or how far...

Z28 and rpcamper... It's great we are all heading down the same road at the same time!!! I used to have Dr Attia but then my insurance changed so I switched... He is cool I liked him while he was my surgeon!!

Ya, you have booked up the 30th. I wanted to go with you, and it also may have been a bit more practical for me on the 30th, but wasn't open. It was either 23rd or the new year. Yep, two week just like you- preop diet. It's coming so soon, 9 days? Im unfortunately in the mist of dealing with relationship issues with a lying boyfriend who I probably need to walk away from. Between that heartache, my full course load at school, work, and responsibility at home- I'm about done at the moment. It's overwhelming! To become single again, adjust my expectations for my future (moving, marriage, children, etc) and now with surgery...I can't process it all.

Good luck to you!

Congrats on your surgery!!! I am so glad to hear you are doing well. I am going a little nuts between the Christmas shopping and the surgery shopping and I am pricing Proteins rinks out at stores like ShopRite and Walmart and Walgreens because I don't want to be dependent on delivery schedules and stuff... Plus I am forgetful and I know I will just forget to order and have no "food" at some point. LOL @Thick n Thin... How are things coming along with you? Did you get insurance approval yet? Did you start you 2 week pre op? ... How is it going? Keep me posted hon .... Talk to everyone soon!!

I started me prop diet yesterday. had a growing headache last night from the caffeine withdrawel I think (though I had cut down to a tiny cup a day before this). Slept for like 9+ hours last night, feel good right now.

I called the doctors office to check on my approval yesterday, not so much because I anticipate a problem, but cause every here seems to do it.,..lol. Lorie said it was submitted a bit over a week ago and she anctipiates getting the authorization in the next couple days and will contact me.

Hey everyone, quick question. I spoke with Lori at Dr. Neff's office yesterday and since my final appt with the nut is Dec 23rd she requested I call her as soon as I finish that day and she will submit all of my paperwork to Cigna to begin the approval process. Meanwhile, I am scheduled to meet with Dr. Neff on January 2nd to schedule my surgery and she's hoping to have my approval by then. That being the case, how far out do you think my vsg will be scheduled? I'm hoping to have my surgery by the end of January but Lori said they usually schedule about a month to a month & a half out. Just curious if anyone has any insight...thxs! :)

Hi Time4... I had my appt with Dr Neff on November 21st and scheduled my surgery that day and my surgery is scheduled for December 30th .... I was originally offered December 23rd but I couldn't do it because of Christmas. So that is about one month out. I hope this helps.

Thick and thin I live in nj got sleeve 9/30/2013 my insurance was blue cross blue shield and that horizon I started this journey in April this year I saw dr nausbum he is one of New Jersey best in Livingston nj, but by June this year the insurance won't pay for the surgery at the hospital he was doing it at. That was very depressing for me so I called up the insurance company and I was to where they would pay for the surgery had to transfer to New York Methodist to dr georiki he is great my cousin did it with him she is 120 pounds. Loss I chose him because my cousin did it with him. And when I saw him for the first time he schedule my surgery right away because I had most if the pre ops done already by September I was sleeve and I am 2 months post op and I lost 56 pounds so far from a size 22 jeans to size 16 and from 2x/3x tops to large I feel great my aim is a size 10 jeans just do ur research tho a lot and talk to people who done it good luck

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I really appreciate it! Unfortunately I'm currently going threw some trails & tribulations at work (boss has been treating me like a second class citizen since the day she found out about my surgery) so I really need to try and move forward asap before I resign and change insurance companies. I never realized till now how evil & hostile some ppl are when it comes to this, so sad!! :(

Well folks, all the wishing, hoping, and preparation and my day is finally coming tomorrow. I have to be at the hospital at 8am tomorrow. All this worry about being approved for the sleeve and getting a date in between semesters has turned into a bit of anxiety and second guessing. Perfectly normal reaction but I trust that my motivation and reasons were solid before the 12th hour has arrived- and it is the best decision for me, no matter how much I want to go down to the chinese buffet today!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
