Found decent protein shot

Recommended Posts

I have had so much trouble getting in enough Protein. I tried all kinds of powders and shakes and would get so nauseated with the smell I would get sick. My nutritionist told me to get Protein Shots (bought online). Well I drank them because they were the least of all the "evils", however I had to hold my nose and stand over the sink in case I threw up. I could not finish the 24 ounce shots but got, close. They were so coagulated that I could not get the taste out of my mouth for a few hours and I would dread each day. I was so weak I knew I had to figure out something I could live with.

Finally, a few days ago my fiancé and I found a Vitamin World in another city. They had the Proto Shot fruit punch with 49 grams of Protein. I wouldn't try it, so he did and said it wasn't bad. I got something to chase it down with in case I got sick and then tried it. Although it doesn't taste goodby any means, it isn't nearly as thick as the others and I did not have to hold my nose. I know everyone is different but wanted to share in case any of you are having the same problem. I am only 3 months out from surgery and my appetite has already returned. I am hoping this will put it back in check

Good luck to all of you.

One suggestion I have without knowing what type of Protein is in that shot is with 49gr, drink half at a time. I have been told your body only can process 20-30 gr per 2 hrs, the rest you just waste away.

To anyone else who comes along and reads this.....don't trust your Nut's advice blindly, or mine. Do your own research as well. collagen Protein is not what we need right now. It will not prevent muscle catabolism which is the danger of drastic calorie restriction. It will give you fabulous hair and nails but that's all. Preventing muscle catabolism is your primary goal in the losing phase....right behind staying hydrated. Whey is the absolute best Protein for this, there are others but collagen is not one of them. And if whey protein or whey protein isolate is not the first ingredient listed on a product, then it likely has trace amounts, not enough to be helpful.

And those shots deceivingly put "whey" in the name but have very little whey actually in them. Borderline false advertising.

So true butter.. Good advice, not worth the money or nasty taste IMO :)

The bottles Isopures are awesome. I mix half and half with Water and get over 40 ounces of Fluid and 40 grams of protien.

The protien shots have actually come a long way. Read up on them. Isopure has a couple out now based on the bottled protien recipe that doesn't use calogen. Also, while some may have calogen in them they also do incorporate whey isolate. Just research and make an educated decision. There are protien gel packs out now as well that aren't bad.

It's true there are some new ones now that are whey based and are good for us. But I've seen many that contain both collagen and whey.....as you stated. The key is which one is listed first on the ingredients. If it's collagen, then likely the amount of whey is only a trace amount.....thrown in just to justify putting it on the label.

I have been drinking the Isopure Protein drink. There are a variety of flavors: 20 oz bottle has 40g of whey protein isolate. I add crystal light to make flavor better. Also I make freeze pops for my Snacks and use it to make Jello. I like it :) I get it at GNC. Hope it helps.

Great idea using the Isopure to make Jello. Definitely will do that.

Yup..these work for me. Sip one all day, 40g of protein. I drink them cold. You can also get Amazon to deliver them by the case.

How do you make the Jello? Boiling Water, jello mix and isopure for cold?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
