Odd smelling urine

Recommended Posts

TMI, I know, but I have to ask! I am usually pretty darn fresh in my va-JJ area but latey, Eeeeek Gads! There is a very unfamiliar smell coming from down yonder. Is this possibly because I am passing fat? I can't stand this but if it is because of that, then I'll just have to deal with it...but ew.

how are you on your liquid intake? If you're not hydrated enough, your urine can/will smell funny

Unlikely, though ketosis does seem to change bodily odors in some people. How is your liquid intake? Could be dehydration also.

I went to the pharmacy to buy some ketostix -- these little strips you pass through your urine that tell if you are in ketosis or not, and the pharmacist was like "You don't need those. If your urine smells different, then you are in ketosis" I went ahead and bought the ketostix anyway

My first 6-7 weeks my urine smelled horrible. I also smelled different down there...not bad...just different. My hubby noticed the urine smell (no privacy in my home) but never the other smell.

I never got dehydrated so I know that wasn't my issue. I assumed it was the meds and being in ketosis. By my 8th week that smell was gone and my urine was back to normal.

Hey I went through that too the "smell". I think its normal with the stomach and all the body goes through. It finally went away. I am 3 months today! Down 40 lbs.

Thank you for the replies! I am 7 weeks tomorrow and am down 31 lbs. My Water intake is pretty good so I don't think I am dehydrated. But, that fat that I am losing has to be going somewhere, so maybe that's it? It's a catch 22 because if that is the reason, then I don't want it to stop until there is no fat left on this body of mine. On the other hand...."Ew!"

What did the sticks tell you?

The sticks are for unrinalysis and are supposed to show the presence of ketones. I mean, honestly, if you're in ketosis you kind of already know it, but I like that extra reassurance-- I like things you can see so it shows me.

LOL I just googled "ketostix" so I could show you a picture, but then I found this: http://ketopia.com/why-you-need-to-stop-worrying-about-the-color-of-your-ketostix/ which I probably need to go ahead and read now :)

ANYwaays....yes the ketostix confirm to me when I am indeed in ketosis and I just like that added feedback. You can get them at any pharmacy.

I had the same thing too, but now at 8 weeks its gone, so I'd say you're normal:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
