Post-Op Soft/Pureed Foods: Palak Paneer. Spinach with Protein

I massively modified this recipe from coffee grinder yourself or buy amongst mexican spices)

1 tsp or less cayenne pepper. Put less, you can add more later

2 tsp garam masala (can buy in most stores)

2 tsp turmeric

2 tsp Salt

1 packet fried or fresh paneer (indian grocery store, frozen section). I will also post recipe for homemade since this is good source of vegetarian high Protein.< /p>

Directions

Pressure Cooker: If making in pressure cooker, dump all ingredients except paneer together and set to high pressure for 4 mins.

Crockpot: Cook on high for 3 hours. Push the spinach down once so all gets moist.

When done, use as immersion blender and mush everything up into either a very smooth puree, or leave some bits unchopped, per your diet stage.

Gently add paneer until mixed in. Serves 6

The original recipe calls for 2 lbs of spinach and makes so much a sleever would be eating it until they died. It's also waaaay too spicy in the original and hers is made in the crockpot. MUCH faster in pressure cooker.

Ingredients

1 lb fresh baby spinach

Peel where necessary and roughly chop:

-1 large yellow onion

-2 medium tomatoes

-5 cloves of garlic

-1 2 inch piece of ginger

-1 serrano or jalapeno chili

2 tablespoons ground cumin (grind in coffee grinder yourself or buy amongst mexican spices)

1 tsp or less cayenne pepper. Put less, you can add more later

2 tsp garam masala (can buy in most stores)

2 tsp turmeric

2 tsp Salt

It's an Indian Dish called Palak Paneer. I like it because it's yummy :) and I think for those of us tired of eating Protein shakes, a food-based way to get some Protein in our tummies.

Ty Gamergirl, I was sleeved on 8/6/13 and i m new to the site and also a veg. I m tried to figure out what to have during 2 weeks of liquid diet. Unable to take milk or protien shake. I am taking greek yogurt and veg broth and puree dals

I have no idea what "Paneer" is..... but it sure sounds yummy. I was worried about eating anything spicy after the surgery, but yesterday I liquefied a can of Progresso Southwestern Vegetable Soup and added some cajun spice. It was pretty hot, but my tummy loved it. It looks wayyy too complicated to make just for myself. Maybe I'll look for a frozen version once I get to the pureed, soft food stage. I love Indian food. Can you recommend any Frozen brands that are good? I'm the queen of the microwave.

So i asked around on this topic. I eat meat but I don't enjoy it. One of the great suggestions I got was to make your Soup, and then when it's cold, mix in some unflavored Protein powder. Then when you re-heat, do so very slowly so it doesn't clump. I'm looking forward to trying that.

In a thread I started about Vegetarian sleevers, I posted a pic of an example vegetarian day where I think you could get 80+ gms of Protein from vegetarian food. Would love to see some of yours suggestions in that thread as well. But it's soft/solid foods, not on liquids where you and I both seem to be.

I also reached out to another vet sleever and she sent me some good suggestions, which I will share with you via PM.

It's an indian home-made cheese that is quite nutritious. We ate spicy food--or more accurately drank spicy food/broth--after 4 days and we've been doing well with it.

My fav is palak paneer, but I also grill veg and paneer like you grill chicken after marinating it. You can use green/red peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, paneer cubes, tomatoes, eggplant, asparagues etc. You can marinate with yogurt and spices or currry paste for an hour or 2 and grill and enjoy them.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
