I actually think that so many people thinking we are just fine or normal is an indicator of the obesity epidemic overall, very overweight has become so commonplace that people have a strange form of reverse body dysmorphia. Just because that may have looked fine and "normal" doesn't mean it was healthy, it just means a lot of people are obese!

When I had my swallow test the day after surgery (3 wks ago)' date=' I overheard the techs discussing me. They said "soon people weighing 125 r gunna be having wls".

It actually made me feel uncomfortable. That I didn't deserve it. Pre op weight was 174, but that was down from 250 4 yrs ago pre lapband. I don't think I would've gotten wls at 174 if there hadn't been a complication.[/quote']

So sorry you had to hear that. Don't you love how quick people are to judge without knowing the full story? Adages of walking miles and other people's shoes come to mind. Idiots.

Many people made faces when I told them about the surgery. 6-24 was the date. I am 4' 11" and weighed 200. I don't know where I packed it. Now I weigh 175 and people tell me I should stop loosing!! What's the deal??

When I lost weight years ago, I got down to 162 (at 5ft 3in I was still obese), I had people telling me I was going to look anorexic if I kept losing (my goal was 135 then). I was beyond insulted. I have people now telling me I look good but I'm at 254 and I don't agree!

My mother told me that one of the things you DON'T want people to say about you is, "She means well."

I went into surgery at 229. Several nurses told me the same thing. It upset me actually. I kinda felt like someone was about to take a gift away from me.

I heard the same thing even as I waited to pre-op testing. In fact it was that kind of talk that deterred me from exploring the option of surgery two years ago. Howver, nothing anyone says can replace the gift of good health! My blood pressure, glucose levels, and joints will undoubtedly thank me once it is all said and done.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
