Band to Sleeve in TEXAS? Doc referrals DfW area or Denton?

Recommended Posts

I appreciate your in put. I hope with this being a revision that I will not have to wait 6 months! I have taken classes in the past, I have a BMI over 35 for last 20+ years and he did my last band. UHC usually approves with in 1-2 weeks so if HE is the hold up then I may have to find another surgeon only because my deductibles are all met for this year and I do NOT want to have to pay another deductible when I still have 4 months left on this year to meet requirements know what I mean...

I am debating between him and Dr Cribbins only cause Cribbins is HOUR closer but I don't mind driving for the best :)

I am using Dr. Kim. He is very skilled, but not much on personality. Oh course, I just want a good surgeon. His office is very helpful as well.

Surgery on Sept 10 band to sleeve.

i saw Dr. Cribbins in April and was scheduled the next month for a revision to a sleeve. i put it off until September. they are really quick. no 6 month wait for me. Dr. Cribbins was one of the first in Dallas to do lapband surgery, so he has been doing these for years. i made appt with Dr. Barker and ended up walking out bc his waiting room was so full of people and i really hate the feeling of being a number and not the patient. went and saw Dr. Nicholson who does the two step surgery, which I did not want. stuck with Dr. Cribbins. he is awesome. i actually work with a nurse, who used to be the nurse of Dr. Hamn, ( dr.cribbins partner) and all she could say is how wonderful Dr. Cribbins is.

About 4 years ago I needed my band because another doc over filled it so much and so

often he ruined it. It was suggest I check out dr provost and dr Cribbins...

Dr Cribbins wanted to remove band for a YEAR then do a sleeve. At the time I had not heard very much about the sleeve and I made mistake of watching the surgery on YouTube and thought ohhhhh hellllll no! LOL so then I went to dr Provost also considered one of the best (staff questionable at times lol) he had 27 years experience and did first Gastric Bypass. I know from what I have heard and confirmed by talking to other patients in his waiting room that he is the "go to" doc when your surgeries go bad, for example he had a lot of "I had mine done in Mexico can you help me" patients and the ones I spoke to swore by him. At that time the sleeve was not discussed because I was hoping te band would work out. In the end he did fix the band the best he could but I was still never successful on it. Fast forward to now.... I'm mentally preparing for the sleeve and this site has been sooooo help full to me. You guys are so amazing with your support.

As it stands... I DID call Dr. Cribbins office two or three times and left a message with his nurse explaining I was ready to do revision like he suggested many years ago and want to know how many he had done. NO responses to any of my calls ... Not even to to tell me I had to make an appt ... So that was disappointing. But I do know he is good.

So I now have an UGI and consultation scheduled with dr provost next Thursday. I hope it is the right decision all the way around.

Thank you so much for all of your kind words of advice! Ill let you know how it goes.

And I agree I want to be a patient not a number

things probably changed in four years. i had my band for over 10 yrs now and got down to 110 but it just doesn't work for me with constant port irritation and band slipped, causing weight gain. not sure why you keep having to leave a msg at their office. i never have issue getting through. keep trying and good luck with whoever you may use. i just always put my trust in Dr. Cribbins bc I have seen him over 10 years and i always feel he is doing what is in MY best interest. i am a nurse and super critical of doctors! also Cribbins is doing one step revision for me in two weeks!! good luck!

Dr. Nick Nicholson did my revision 9/10/13 and he removed the band and did the sleeve in one procedure. Everything was great with his staff and Forest Park Medical was a very nice hospital. Dr.Nick charged me 4k less than Dr. Kim was going to charge me and I have not had to pay any "consult fee" or for any office visits. I would highly recommend Dr. Nick to anyone.

I'm seeing Dr. Rivera at Baylor Grapevine, and though I'm still pre-op, he and his staff have been fantastic! Dr. Marin is also a surgeon in that practice, and I believe he's the Chief of Surgery for Baylor Grapevine. During my consult, he told me that they do loads of band-to-sleeve revisions, and said revisions are their only contact with Lapbands anymore. I'm not sure how many procedures per year that translates into, but it might be worth checking out. The office is well-run, never super busy, and I never feel like a number.

Did you find a doctor?

I am using Dr. provost. He knows his stuff and am comfortable with using him. Surgery should be jan/feb 2004. Good luck on your surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
