I had surgery on July 20th. So far everything has been easy. I didn't have pain or gas after surgery, so that was nice. I'm working on some soft mushies with no issues. I had some loose BM's for the first couple of days post surgery and since then, nothing.

I'm not uncomfortable, I'm just worried. I'm taking a stool softener every day, so I hope that when it does occur, it isn't too painful.

I planned it to go back to work on the end of the week so that I had the weekend to recover, then I see my doc on Monday. If I'm to tired I'll work a half day Friday and it's already a half day Monday with my doc appt

Getting your fluids helps a lot.

Sleeved July 24th. Left hospital 13 pounds heavier because of Water. Still haven't lost all of that so it is like I haven't lost anything. Still have pain at the port site. I too can't get all the Protein and water in. But each day I get closer. Congrats to all the July sleevers. I am excited for our journey on the loser bench.

Today was the first day I was able to hace a scrambled egg & it was so good, was only able to get in like 5 small bites before feeling like that was maybe more then enough. I have also began walking for 30 to 40 minutes a day around my neighborhood. Today I walked up 4 hills without losing my breath :) I am so proud of myself!!!!! I wish everyone great success with your sleeve & keep up the great work everyone!!!!

I was sleeved on 7/24. I think I'm supposed to start puréed foods tomorrow. Do mashed potatoes count? And what about sodium? Am I supposed to be watching that? I dnt remember my nutritionist saying anything about that but I could be wrong. Thank you

I believe we are supposed to try to stay with things that have protien in them & stay away from the carbs... as far as sodium goes I dont know.

My nut listed mashed potatoes as 'ok' in the puréed phase (thinned with skim milk). Seems, as I've been reading, each one has their own set of instructions.

Good luck!!

Yea I think they are all different and tell us different things. I actually made some but could only get about 5 small bites in. Then it started to hurt a little. I guess I'm done for the night lol. Thank you!

Sleeved on the 17th, working since Friday on pureed and to work in my Protein. I had a rare moment of brilliance this morning when I realized a scoop and a half of my Protein is 30 grams. I drink it in the morning in the car on the way to work and finish it off at the office instead of coffee. This made getting my protein in so much easier today.

I have basically gone to eating 4 times a day (7, 11, 3 and 7). At three I have a second shake which puts me right around 50 for the day and getting in my remainder between the other two meals is not as complicated.

I have been having a greek yogurt at 11 ( which puts me at 60 grams) then trying different things at dinner at 7. I tried egg beaters yesterday and it was like i was eating shards of glass. I like my eggs not runny and that might have been the problem. Today I used canned white chicken with garlic herb seasoning and light mayo on wheat saltines and I am in love.

I am not weighing myself until I go back to the Dr on 8/13, especially since I am entering into the dreaded 3rd week stall and don't want to drive myself crazy.

Have a good day!

Me too! My vision has been a little weird too. It's getting better though. I thought maybe because i was dehydrated, someone told me that could be. Other pain is subsiding. Hopefully on the downward side of everything now :)

So, today I found out that my blood sugar has been dropping at night. It was causing me to have temple headaches in the morning upon awakening, dizziness/faint feeling. After I drink my morning soy milk, a little while later, I'm fine. Started testing my glucose. Yes, it is low. I am told that it can affect vision too. So if you have these things...check your sugar!

I was sleeved on the 17th and had my first follow-up yesterday. I have my release to go back to work Monday the 29th. I was itching to go back' date=' I thought, this past Monday, but even my boss wanted me to take the week to heal and come back the 29th because he did not want to pick me off the floor if I rushed it. In the end, that was probably a good idea since even taking a 20 minute walk the first couple of days this week ended with a long nap.

I am now on pureed foods and had the best Greek yogurt ever for dinner tonight. Tomorrow I might try some tuna and saltines.

The pain was never horrible, I would say never more than a 2 or 3.[/quote']

This was very inspiring. I am being sleeved on Aug 12th. I am excitedly nervous.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
