Protein Drinks/Shakes

Recommended Posts

Where do you get your Protein drinks/shakes? Do you order them online, or buy them from the grocery store. The only ones that I seem to be able to find in the grocery aisle are Slim Fast and though I have not tried one lately, the ones I remember tasted like cocoa flavored chalk!

Any suggestions? :help:

I order on line. I find it much more convenient that way. The first thing to do is decide what you like in Protein drinks and powders. Then, in my opinion, order it on line.

You can find options besides slim fast in health food stores. Try these and see what you like. From there it will usually be a good bit cheaper to order on line.

There are also a lot of posts on here about what people like in this area. You can run some searches for "protein drinks" and "protein powder" etc, and get lots of info pretty quickly.

I get my vanilla and chocolate whey powder by the 5 lb jugs at sams wholesale for about 25 dollars each...Then I recently found the strawberry and Cookies & cream variety of whey on Amazon.com and just got them in yesterday for around the same price as the others...I was getting tired of just the 2 that were available to me and decided to go online to get a variety for my taste buds

Hey guys--I have a question. Has any one else's doc told them not to drink the Protein Shakes once they start on solid food? Mine said that because they are a liquid, they will not stay in the new stomach and slowly digest like regular food does. I haven't had any since I started on solids, but the other day I grabbed one as I was headed out the door for work cuz I didn't have time to eat, and it really didn't seem to keep me full like the scrambled egg or whatever I usually eat does. Maybe it depends on the kind of shake? This was an EAS AdvantEdge shake. Any thoughts? My doc said to eat a Protein Bar instead of drinking the shake. Does anybody eat the bars?

MIne said the shakes were fine, just to make them really thick so they's stay in there longer.

i was told to opt for food instead of the liquid shakes as often as I can. But i do a lot of running out the doorin the morning so its easier to whip up some Protein Powder and juice and go.

i had bought a lot of samples from bariatriceating.com and had gotten a container fo whey Protein from trader joes. when i got back to work from my surgery my coworkers had made this huge care package with 2 big boxes of myolex protein powder and some GNC powder. i think i have protein to get me thru the year! ne myolex packet makes waaay to much so i empty them into a tuperware and spoon a few tablespoons into my magic bullet and go, I can't tell exactly then how much protein i'm getting but then i'm not wwaisting alot either.

I read about Hanks Finest Protein Milkshake on another website. I ordered a sample from their website. It was $3 I think. Hopefully, I will get it soon and I will post how it is.

Also, they will give you $6-$9 off your upcoming up.

if you don't mind paying about 2.75 acan then try Pure Pro shakes in chocolate by ABB. Can be bought at some GNC stores and on Netrition.com. My gym sells them too. 170 cal. 5 carbs and 35 g of Protein.

Personally don't like Protein powder much.

Most successful and healthy 'losers' who've been wls patients for a while disagree with doctors who say 'no Protein supps'....with a small pouch it's simply impossible to eat right and get as much Protein as your body needs to maintain healthy muscles and hair and energy. I've 10 mo. out and still couldn;t eat enough solid foods to get my 100 gr. of protein. I don't use them as meal subsitutes very often, but they certainly help with the cravings and satisy a need for a sweet now and then.

For examples.........I use the nectar Cappacino or Matrix chocolate in my coffee in the mornings (I add a little creamer) , the IDS vanilla/cinnamon in my hot tea, nectar Peach Navel in Chrystal Lite or Water or tea, OrangeCream Matrix with Water and ice as a smoothie. (I order mine from www.bariatriceating.com - they will send you a packet of samples if you want to try a lot of flavors/brands. I usually order what I need when they are on sale).

My very favorite protein supplement is Micellar Milk....you can get it at VitaminShoppe store or at BE.com. or www.netrition.com (their shipping is less). It is 17 oz, 40 gr protein and it tastes somewhat like rice pudding. Lots of people use it in their coffee - I drink it straight (the vanilla).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
