Feeling lots of emotions

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for my sleeve on 8/5 and just went to my pre-op class this morning. I've been waking up every day feeling nausious because of the upcoming event. I'm relieved to have found out that I will not have a catheter or drain so 2 less worries lol. But I'm also worried about recovery because I have 2 small kids one being ADHD and my husband finds it hard to handle him...I hope it works out....

It will all workout for you. You do not need to stress with you surgery coming near. Since this is a minimum invasive procedure you will not be down long. Ask your husband to step up and take charge until you get better. He has to be there for you in this time of need. Good luck with your procedure.

Don't stress, the last thing you want to do is raise your blood pressure and get sent home without surgery. I can tell you, even with complications, I was still able to do basic things (slowly and carefully) after 1.5 weeks. Of course everyone is different.

Since your hubby stresses handling your child, can you line up another support system? If you have friends or family that can come and give him a break for a few hours each day the first week or 2 that would be great. Also, you and hubby prepare meals and freeze them ahead of time.

The more you can do to be prepared the better off you'll be when the day gets here.

Relax. Don't let your fears get out of control. Your husband may step up to the plate and come through for you in ways you have not planned, yet. I would too line up a second support person so he can be free the First week for you. Prepare meals ahead for the family. He has to step up this time. Don't feel guilty and fearful about improving your health. It will work out just fine.

Good luck

Don't worry I also have 2 small children ages 7 & 2 and my husband is self employed so when he misses work he doesn't get paid so I thought I would be down and out for a while but it wasn't so I had my surgery on a Wednesday came home Friday evening and my husband was back to work Monday and I was home with my 2 kids alone and doing ok....you know cooking dishes some bare minimal stuff first few days but fine with them and husband helped with bath and extra chores in evening. I would have never thought this esp first 2 days in the hospital and how I felt I thought I would be down and out for weeks but you get better quick! I am currently 1 week post-op and doing good! Best of luck to you and your family!

My surgery date is the same day (8/5). Take it one day at a time. You need to expect that there are going to be struggles you'll face between now and early September (when you've recovered a little), but just remember that you, your husband, and kids will still be there when it is all over. Just hang in there, and don't talk yourself out of it

Thanks guys! While there seems to be many challenges I know this is the right decision as I want to be healthy for my family and be around for my kids for a long time. On another note, I do need to point out that my hubby is a wonderful daddy but our son has many challenges and its difficult parenting him sometimes. I just worry that my hubby will go crazy lol!

Oh we don't doubt he's a good hubby/Dad. All we're saying is that just as Moms go crazy and need extra help sometimes, Dads do too. He may go crazy and that's fine for a bit. Right now you can only worry about your health and well being. Better to do that now so that you'll recover faster/better.

Once you're over the initial hump, you'll both be able to look back and breathe a sigh of relief.

Maybe there's a little something he's been putting off getting for himself, or something special he'd like to do? Perhaps you could wrap it up (or write it as a promise in a card) and give it to him the night before your surgery. Tell him you know the next week is going to be rough for both of you, his support means the world to you, and you just wanted to make sure he knows it's not all about you, even if it feels that way for a bit. Maybe that will give him the little bit extra he needs to get through it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
