I have type two diabetes. My doctor told me to stop my meds, I was only on glucophage, and he will check my hemoglobin a1c in 3 months. Just got sleeved July 3 so I have a long way to go but here's keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!

My wife was sleeved Monday 07/08 and hasn't taken her diabetes medicine (metformin?) since Tuesday, per her doctor. Her blood sugar level has gone down each day...92, 90 and 87 today.

I was sleeved July 1st. My endocrinologist had me stop my metformin one week in to my 2 week preop liquid diet. I see him in a couple of weeks and will find out the plan then. For now, I'm testing at least twice a day and my numbers are anywhere from 85-97.

I've been a type 2 for 20 years. Before surgery was taking glucovance and viktoza. Diabetes was getting out of control before surgery, but I do think that had to do with my band (stomach had prolapsed and was adhered to my liver). BS was higher during hospital stay, and they were giving me insulin.

Since being home I'm only on viktoza and my morning numbers are running about 137, previously 180's. I have hit 200 a couple of times, but not consistently. 3 months labs will be next week.

Sooo it appears my BS is better but not gone. And, i probably would have had the same results with bypass. Unfortunately that may be what it is since I have had diabetes for so long.

Type 2 here. Have not taken Metformin since surgery (surgeon took me off them and other meds). I'm getting between 89-109 consistently daily since.

I had surgery July 2012 a year ago. I am ni longer diabetic but my doctor is keeping me on metformin twice a day. She said that once you are diabetic your pancreas has been affected and therefore she says I will continue to need Metformin.

My surgeon said when I get older I will have to start taking it again. :(

I was taking 2000mg of Metformin and 100mg of Actos. I am down to 500mg of metformin only. I plan on being off by November (1 year out). Backing off slowly allows the pancreas to recover some (although it will never be like it was pre-diabetes).

My endocrinologist said with the right diet and exercise mine can be cured forever since having the VSG. However I was only diagnosed 10 months before my sx. And my hgb a1c was never above 6.9. Maybe I just caught it really early. Good luck to everyone!

Yay for u!!!! I hope I hear that one day. I've been diabetic since I was 23. I'm 31 now so I don't know if it can be cured forever but I can hope. My endo switch me to insulin about a year ago plus pills because my hubby and I wanted to have a baby to no avail. I can't wait to have my surgery maybe I can get rid of this disease.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
