Hum...Maybe they need some cooking lessons.... My nephew used to be like that, always the best... on someone else's money or time....he is doing better now... trying to contribute to the family.... there is hope!

Lol they are (my husband and daughter) complaining again because I'm forcing them to eat leftovers... It the comments like "wow" and "don't put yourself out" my husband works 12 hour days but geeez give me a break we have left over fish, chicken, chili potatoes, broccoli, salad, and two kinds of Soups all from this week! That's my daughter always the best.. She broke her phone this weekend (on the wall) and is parlaying it into a new smart phone.

She will be 18 may 15th Sorry about venting.. It's just been a long week of mutiny at home.. I actually wrote the worlds longest post earlier about the events of the weekend but felt like it was verbal vomit spewing forth and edited it :)

OMG, Laura did my kids come and invade the bodies of your children?

"Chicken again....no I will do anything but chicken" - said from 11 yo who honestly avoided it for a while after dissecting a chicken wing in science class. But me? I do lots o chicken...ain't gonna stop now!

"Healthy baking, MOM THERE IS NO SUCH THING...can't you just bake REGULAR" whenever I try to bake with things like applesauce, yogurt, egg beaters, Splenda, etc.

"Why can't we just eat pizza" 11 yo requested pizza last night so I just threw one from the freezer to the oven. Then I lovingly prepared a cauliflower crust pizza for myself. I gave hubby the choice of freezer pizza or mine. He had both. Said mine was better. :P

But you know what? Tonight I made a pork loin roast. Rubbed it with all kinds of good spices and roasted it in the oven for 3 hours. Then I sauteed some green Beans and made baked potatoes. I did have half a (small) potato..hubby had the other half. There was lots of compliments and everyone was happy tonight. Guess it makes up for the other nights when it's leftovers or my all time favorite night of all... YOYO NIGHT.

You're On Your Own for dinner. LOVE THAT NIGHT!!!

I made Soup today. All organic veggies, some from the garden, cooked until it was thick and rich. What did hubby say? Tastless. It has NO flavor whatsoever. I told him to dump some salt and chili in it and thats what he did. If he makes anything for me, even if its not my cup of tea, I say thank you. He is not what you would call a grateful person. The world seldom satisfies him. Its too bad, really you miss out on so much when you think nothing is ever really good enough. He does not do this all the time, but he gets on jags, and then it is yoyo night here too!

Thanks I can't take credit for it...a friend of mine had a HS-aged daughter who started the phrase. When she told it to me I glommed onto and use it quite often around here. :P

HI Ladies, still not there yet, haven't had a successful fast day yet. To many parties and shopping trips in the mall. I am keeping the pedometer plan. All recent days over 10,000 steps.  Those steps include riding the bike, Zumba and mall shopping. Peaceful diner out with the family last night Grilled Salmon, broccoli and carrots.  Took half home, so good on the portion. Oh forgot to mention the chips and queso dip for appetizer and spoonfuls of hot apple pie ala'mode for desert. Haven't put it in the tracker.  But I did enjoy may family and that is what life is all about.

Brown it could be worse you could be dating...really hard to eat sleevie.

Laura,i must be a mean bitch...18 year old that tried that would be invited to take on head chef duties or get a job and find his own dinner. My ex (step dad) would never tolerate that disrespect toward mom either. I understand you are a stay at home mom, doesn't make you their servant or doormat. So maybe they do feel they need something more from you (negotiable) doesn't change that they owe you respect first (non negotiable).i am apparently old school on some subjects and raising sons maybe I have a tough love attitude but dang...I am nobodys house slave. food tastes not so great they still say thank you for dinner. Their future wives can thank me later. :)

Hi Daisy (Denise) trying the larger font sizes. Ok. last post seems too big, trying 24.  Still dont' know how to make a spaced line in my posts. Oh well.   Larua I feel you on the family and cooking issues.  I don't have teenagers in the house anymore, but I do so remember those struggles. When my oldest son was 18 we had the biggest fight about a box.  I asked him to take this box downstairs for me. I was struggling to even pick it up.  Then he paced around awhile, the fight began with " mom I'm not like you, I can't do EVERYTHING".  "this box is awkward and heavy", "if you can't get it down the stairs, what makes you think I can".  I replied, in my Boy don't mess with me voice, "Son its not that difficult, just figure it out.. take the box down stairs " I even added a please.  At that point he began to struggle to pick it up like he was going to drop it.  I then, snatched the box from him, took it downstairs, then bought it back up and told him to take the freaking box downstairs and cut it out!!"  OMG!!  the firestorm started and ended with my son taking the box downstairs.   My 18 year old son, of course trying to be a man,, was simply crushed. At the time I didn't realize what I had actually done to him and to our relationship.  We never forget that argument, he's 30 and we are fine now. We actually laugh about it, during the conversation segment of " remember when Mom was tripping!!"  They have many stories to tell.

The point I'm trying to make is we all go through it. Teens are tough!  Especially the ones trying to find themselves, trying to be an adult and they are not.  Trying to be equal to the parents and they are not. Oh.. the teen years are really tough.

OMG.. I am able to make a space line now ( ha Ha).  and the eating. I love fish. I could eat it 3 nights a week. My family doesn't care much for fish. Hubby especially is a steak eater. Well I can't eat much steak, fills me up too fast then I'm hungry later. So I cook chicken and fish.  I now live with 3 grown adults, the only one I care to satisfy is my two year old grandson and he's easy now. So I cook what I want to eat and when I hear the "fish again?" , "chicken again?" I send text messages to hubby , daughter and son. Your on your own for diner tonight. YoYo nights.. Never called them that before, but its easier to text so Im gonna introduce it to my family.

Laura.. the old mom thing.. they want us the way we were. always cooking, always catering to what they wanted despite what we want and what we need. I found that when I am focused on losing weight I'm focused on me and what I want, which takes away a bit from them and what they think they need.  Since you still have younger ones, you may not always  be able to go to the YoYo nights, the younger ones would starve or eat horribly. But I'd have a frank discussion bout family needs vs family wants.  Cooking lessons for the younger ones might help, start them early learning healthy eating habits. The 18 year old phone throwing daughter.. well that 's another story. Hang in there, this too shall pass.

sorry for the long ramble. The family thing really hits home to me. I'm such a mother, always doing for others and at times it seems like they don't care.

BTW I think Globe was heading to  Germany

Jane. I would think eating on dates would be easier, since the time is probably spent talking.  But yes..the not drinking with your meal might cause a question or two.  As small as you are ( and you look great by the way ) the smaller portions would make sense to him and not encourage questions.  What do you mean eating out and dating ??  IN the beginning all the dates are probably at restaurants so tempting foods are always around.. Yep.. gottcha

Put it in the tracker! It is tempting to just close the eyes... but tracking through difficulties is taking some control of the situation. better to know than not!

love all the other family stories!

LOL...my name has been in my footer all along! Yes, Dee is me... :)

Holy crap, I got busy at work ("busy" = "INSANE") and didn't catch up for a couple of days...SIX new pages of posts! LOL, you guys are having a party without me...but that's okay cos there are so many work parties, I'm just dying to live through the next week and then REEEELLLLLLAAAAAX for a couple of weeks... /takes deep breaths...

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gsoEZSS3edo/UqW8njHEQaI/AAAAAAAAAcg/g3m_TgsczII/s1600/CherryCon-me-today.jpg

That is a link to a before/after photo of me. The before is about six months pre-op (and admittedly is a HORRENDOUS photo LOL), and the after was like in March 2013? That skirt and top are a little looser on me now, though I haven't (still!) lost any weight...

I am still reading to catch up. xoxoxo

Hey Dee - good to see ya, and wow - that photo comparison is just, well are you sure they are both you!  You look absolutely stunning; amazeballs my lovely!

I hope things have calmed down for you a little, but it doesn't really sound like it!  I bet you are looking forward to some chill time - I know I am!

It ain't fair that you haven't lost weight,  but the fact the your clothes are bigger is a bonus and one I can relate to.  But, and this is a big but, do you NEED to lose any?

Keep us posted - I've missed you x

Yes Jane, I need to grow a pair! I'm not going to be a doormat and I've spent the last week letting them know that.

Brown, I love that story! It's makes it even better that it had such a positive impact on your son.

You handled that situation and teaching moment just right.

Ladies I binged bad last night.. When I first started to write this I was going to say I don't even know why.. But I think stress and funny enough relief played a part..

My daughter and I fought again last night..

But I was able to be brutally honest and purge some things to her.. She has people believing I'm a horrible cold person that is verbally abusive. In fact one of her friends moms is supposed to contact me this weekend to "talk" according to her..

She comes at me with "what kind of mom is counting the days until her daughter is 18 to kick her out" so the fighting began.

I let her know I feel like I've been living under siege by her for years she is violent and if I enter her room or get close to her she starts blindly swinging we've to tackle her several times my husband and me helping restrain her as he is trying to pin her down she literally goes crazy and even sounds like an animal and starts smashing things and swinging blindly.

I'm scared of her on some level. I know that if she feels I'm in her face she will hit me (it's her strange defense mechanism) she almost goes into a fugue state..

Yes jane many years of counseling for her, it's helped some.. Especially when she was younger.

But she refuses to go anymore. Last year it got really bad. We found someone who was supposed to be the best around it was an emergency situation and my husband called in some favors to contact this man.

OMG he charged 300 dollars an hour! Not covered by insurance!

He met us and her. She even kinda seemed to like him the first day. he had two sessions with her and on the third she was pissed that I was interrupting her life to do this (he only had appointments right after school so she had to come straight home) he came out afterwards and said they would not be going forward.. Wtf??? She refuses counseling now and we can't force her..

I let it all out last night. Told her she is abusing me, that I'm scared of my own daughter.. That I refuse to live like this anymore and that's why I count the days. I just want peace in my life..

So the relief? It felt good just to be honest (and sometimes it wasn't nice what I was saying but honest)

And we at some point stopped fighting and spent the rest of the night together..

But I BINGED! I ate so much I can't even remember it all... I stayed up until almost 2 am eating..

I ate things like Peanut Butter, Protein Cookies (350 calories worth) a Protein Bar a granola bar, some chips, and this was after saying screw it at dinner and eating chicken tortilla Soup and some cornbread.

Sorry I needed to purge this and get it off my chest.

It is done, I am done,

Going to consider this all spewed out and I will move in from here.

Thank you for listening.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
