So I am PO day 16 and I have found that it is really hard to get fluids in during the AM. It takes me a bit to feel good. I sometimes have a lump feeling in my throat that always subsides after I drink and eat a bit . Anyone else get a slow start? It is hard to get everything in during the day !

My nut instructions say to drink something hot/warm if this happens in the morning :-)

Yes! I had a hard time getting food down in the mornings. I often had a Protein shake for Breakfast or yogurt smoothie (greek yogurt, Water, splenda, splash of OJ and a couple of strawberries). I drank on a schedule because it was hard to get the Water in.

6 a.m. Wake up: Before breakfast: 8 oz water (often as tea or Decaf coffee)

Breakfast around 8 a.m.: In smoothie: Protein Shake with 8 oz. water or water/soymilk mx

By 10 am: 8 oz water

By Noon: 8 oz. water

By 3 pm: 8 oz. water

By 5 pm: 8 oz water

By 7 pm: 8 oz water

By bedtime: Protein Shake with 8 oz water or soymilk/water blend

Leave glass of water on nightstand and sip when I wake up

I am supposed to be on purée foods but I find it hard to get in the Protein Shakes and all the Water. In during the day. I have no room for purée stuff! I called the dr and they said to take the purée slow, not a big deal at this point. Such a learning curve!!!

Isereno, thanks for your reply. I have been reading your menus in the nutrition section with great hopes for the future! I would be very likely to eat similar to you! It is nice as a new sleever to hear from a veteran!

I didn't have a hard time in the mornings but my NUT told me that could happen. She said that other patients reported that their sleeve almost felt tight in the mornings.

As for the intake, you are still early out so give it more time and it will get easier :D It's like a full time job in the beginning. I'm 3 months out and I can get in 70-100 g of Protein a day now.

Thank you! The first weeks are the hardest. Just concentrate on getting your fluids and Protein in. I really relied on the Protein drinks early out. I do love the way I can eat now. I eat a small meal and I am full. I remember how pre-op, even if I ate healthy, I had to eat such a large quantity to feel full.

I get very nauseated in the morning when I try to drink Water. I start the day with some decaff and then a protien shake before I can start on the water. I tried to drink water first this morning because I woke up sooo thirsty, and I ended up dry heaving. Sometimes I feel like Im pregnant again.

BINGO! my sleeve IS tight in the morning!!!! I had no idea anyone else had that. So glad I found this place. My desire for food is at 10pm and after nibbling and gagging all day I do find I can get 4 oz of Protein in then. But for taste, it don't matter my tastes are all messed up. I don't like the taste of anything, I eat to live. But I am happy that my morning dilemma is answered.

I am 4 mos out and I still have a hard time in the morning. I have decided to stick with a protien shake for breakfast. It still takes about 45 minutes to drink it all down.

Sometimes in the morning I would feel weak and dehydrated and a little bit dizzy. I drink everything I wake up and that seems to help. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
