Hello everyone. I was just recently banded, 4/5/7. My first wt was 301. After that "delicious" 2 week Liquid Protein diet, I went into surgery with a wt loss of 21 lbs. My first post op dr. appt is tomorrow. I am a single mother, 47, two children, son 24, daughter 19. I am a LPN going to RN school this fall. I believe I started gaining my wt due to depression. I have been divorced for 6 years. My only problem so far is I havent learned yet how to "read" what my ban is telling me. I am really having to learn what "feeling full" is. So far I am still on a full liquid diet, and I think I have had all the fun there is to have concerning this phase of the diets. Really looking forward to the blended diet. I look at this band as a new start for me. Its moms turn at a life. I really want a pair of jeans with no elastic in the waist, and I dont want to have to cover my butt with a long shirt. I truly hope I keep my frame of mind that I possess at this moment until I reach my goal!

I am just geting started in the process.

I live in Galion, Ohio and am having my band done by Dr Needleman at OSU

I live with my husband who does not have a food problem but is very supportive of my being banded. I also have two dogs : Pooh is a mini dauschound and Spot is a toy fox terrier. I have 5 cats that live outside.

I have had a weight problem all my life, Well at least since I was a teen.

I did lose weight with Weight Watchers and kept it off for 11yrs. Then my

first husband commited suiside and I lost control and I had never been able to get in contro again. My bigest problem is Portion Control so I think this band will really help me a lot. Glad to see people are doing well with the band. I can't wait to get mine.:D

Hi Tyanna, Welcome to the site. I think I am up in the same area as you. I live outside of Cardington, South of Mt. Gilead. My insurance company just approved me for the band and I have a surgery date of May 25th. I am very excited. I know of the dr you are seeing, my uncle had some complications from the bypass and was moved up to OSU and dr. needleman was his dr while he was there. He was very nice and always kept us informed of how my uncle was doing. Unfortunatly my uncle did pass away due to serious infections he got from not getting the proper care in the first facility he was in before they moved him to OSU. I have choosen Dr. Curry in cincy, he and his staff are very nice as well.

Good luck to you.

well i have been banded for two whole days!! at riverside, my doc put me on a Protein liquid diet for 6 days before. i lost 17 pds in that time period, i consider that my running start. plus 6 pds from my first nutrionist appt., but before the Protein diet, i kinda went crazy most of the time, eating things i thought i would never get to eat again.......crazy huh.

i am 44,divorced with 1 wonderful teenage daughter. struggled with weight all of my life. my biggest weight of 325 on my first nutrition appt in feb 06. everyone in my family has been great and supporting my decision.

i am hopeful this is my answer, it is funny even a sf popsicles tasted sweet and i dont really feel hungry, although just today my stomach is growling.

i have had an easy time of it and not much pain at all, all of the nurses were shocked.

feeling good and on my way, but feeling confused about what to drink, other than 60g of protein, it is like i forgot everything they told me.

so suggestions are welcome.

thanks

Hi Olivia3031,

Congratz on your banding date:clap2: It is nice to know that I have a buddy

close to home. Maybe we can meet in Mt Gilead some Sat. Morning for coffee at the corner cafe. I do not have a banding date yet. Had a little

set back all my blood work didn't get ordered. :cry All taken care of and now i am back in waiting mode for the next step toward gettig my surgical consult with Dr Needleman. :nervous Glad that your family had a postitive experiance with him. Sorry about your uncle though. That is one reason I choose banding not as many complications. If I did not get acceped for OSU I would have gone to cincy but I really didn't want to go that far from home. Good Luck and keep me posted. I look forward to being part of your support team.

Tyanna

Hi Tyanna, How are you doing today. I am just glad its finally friday. What blood work did you have to get done? I have not had any blood work yet. Hope I haven't missed something! I have some pre-op and admission stuff to do at the hospital on the 15th maybe thats when they will do it. I have no idea.

I agree, having the band done is so much more safer then what my uncle went through. The hardest part was telling my mom I had decided to have the lap band surgery. To my surprise she was for it and very supportive. She realizes the 2 surgies are totally different and thinks I have made the right decission. I sent you a private message with my email address if you wanted to meet sometime. Got to run.

Olivia3031.

Hello! I'm from Cincinnati and I expect to be banded at the beginning of June at Good Samaritan Hospital. I've jumped through all the hoops and my material is just being submitted to my insurance company.

I'm concerned that my insurance company (Humana) will be one of the ones that requires a 6-month doctor-supervised diet before approval. After a 6-month diet my BMI will be too low to qualify...........Good Sam also requires a two-week liquid Protein before surgery to reduce the amount of fat around the liver so it is easier to attach the band.

I would love to hear about your banding experiences. I am 56 and hoping for relief from back and knee problems.

Hi Ohio people.

I was banded nearly two months ago at OSU in Columbus by Dr. Makami. I get my first fill on Monday and I've very psyched.

I did have to do 6 mos of doctor supervised dieting...I had many hoops to jump through...it took 14 months from initial consult to surgery. I changed doctors at one point too. BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT!

You can see on the side I'm 39, single mom to one 5 year old, work full-time and go to school full-time. Life is crazy but fantastic.

OH Juli

Thanks for the reply Kendra and Juli. My surgeon will be George Kerlakian. He seems great but the day I met with him he had a resident shadowing him for the day who was obviously disdainful of fat people and very arrogant. I did complain about him, which is when I found out he was only there for one day.

I wouldn't object to the 6-month diet if I didn't think that it would be used to disqualify me. I don't even know what they're looking for. Do they want the diet to prove I'm serious about weight loss, or do they want it to prove that I can lose weight on my own and therefore do not need the band?

It's my opinion they want you to diet for 6 months or wait for 6 months to see if you are serious about the surgery or not. Many people want quick fixes and want their insurance to pay for it. It's a weed out factor. Lose or gain, they don't care.

I didn't lose a pound during my 6 months. After that, and a few more months I decided I didn't have any excuses for not taking my health serously and I started slow. I started tracking my food on fitday.com and worked on what I could.

I'll say it again, it is worth all the hoops, just to really get a hold of this eating monkey that was/and still is a bit hanging around my neck.

Kendra-

You've got a great attitude. Nice to meet you as well.

OH Juli

Hello Ohio Banders!

I'm Johnny Ray, and I was banded May 1st, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, OH. My Surgeon was Michael Canaday. The Bariatric Center just started doing lapbands, and I was one of the first.

Everything went well, and I went home the same day.

So hopefully there will be a lot more Southeast Ohio banders out there real soon!:clap2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
