Can't stomach anything without nausea, HELP!

Recommended Posts

I could really use some advice...

I am 12 days post-op and have been trying to progress to full liquids for a few days now, but everything makes me nauseous. I have been pretty side effect and complication free on the Clear Liquids diet; great restriction, no hunger, 20.2 lbs lost already, which is all great..... but I need to be able to progress to full liquids without wanting to vomit!

I have tried SF Popsicles, SF Jello, SF pudding, cream of chicken Soup, pureed vegetable soup, Tomato basil soup, and nothing seems to work....

Anyone have this problem? I'm worried that not being able get my Protein will slow my weight loss! Any recommendations of gentle foods to try that might help ease me into the full liquids stage?

Any help would be wonderful....

I had the same problem, and unfortunately nothing would go down easily my first two weeks post-op. I found that walking and drinking at the same time really helped, and my doctor eventually put me on Prilosec (to reduce the acid in my stomach, rather than to treat heartburn) and Zofran (an anti nausea med) which worked wonders, and is allowing me to eat most soft foods at 3 weeks out without too much trouble.

It gets better! Hang in there!

I stayed an extra day in hospital because I could not get past liquids without nausea . When I got the wave they put an alcohol prep near my nose , kind of squashed the feeling imidiately and gave me zofran iv push and out it went. But in the hospital they told me if I needed I could take a script home with me for the zofran so I am sure its available in pill form, call your syrgeon you shouldnt have to suffer like this. And by some alcohol preps they work wonders. Good luck to you I hope your better soon.

Pepto Bismol and Prilosec helped me immensely!

Thanks everyone! I am already taking a form of Prilosec, I haven't had any reflux issues, but my GP prescribed it as a preventative measure. I will definitely try the walking and drinking and will ask my GP about Zofran. Hopefully taking an anti-nausea medication will make it a little easier to sip thicker Soups :)

I haven't had surgery yet but I did read a couple of posts that said thinned out cream of wheat helped them when they couldn't eat anything else, I know i'ts not great Protein wise but maybe it's something you could get down

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
