How long did it take to get your surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys and Gals,

Im a little curious as to how long i have left in the process. I am one of the lucky few people who do not have a diet/waiting period on my insurance, So after speaking with the insurance company about what needed to be done, i located a approved hospital and doctor, had my seminar (6/20), completed my Psych Eval and passed (6/19) and have my telephone intake appointment (7/3). Im sure there are other test to be completed, prior to submitting the package to the insurance company, but what? I'm really excited to start the weight loss endevor. Can any body tell me how long i have left, or How long it took you from your seminar to your surgery date?

Thanks Guys!

My insurance also does not require any formal supervised weight loss. They only needed to see one year of documented weight from my PCP, which was no problem seeing as my PCP and the weight management center are all within the same hospital system.

I went to the informational seminar on 5/15. Their office called me the next day to set up an appointment. My first appointment with the surgeon was 5/29. I made a lot of my appointments that day and stacked them to get through it faster. I had the psych consult and metabolic breath rate test on 5/31, home sleep study and dietary consult on 6/3. I only needed dietary and psych approvals plus the 1-yr documented weights for them to submit to insurance. They submitted 6/4 and I received approval on 6/14.

My surgery is scheduled for 7/22. I have other appointments in the meantime which must be done in order to keep the surgery date. But all in all, from first appointment with the surgeon til surgery, it was only about 7 weeks.

Corvette Girl,

Wow, 7 weeks that is really quick. Did the surgeon require you to have all the other test done, IE the bone density exam and thing of that nature? i know that my insurance only requires the Psy eval, I hope im not required to show a year of documented weight cause i have only been to the docs office like three times in the past 3 years, (only when i needed to go)

Well anyway, thanks for the response, hopefully i wont have to wait the full year and good luck on you surgery!

I think that my time to get the surgery today was a exception because the time from the day that I first contacted the center that I am using until my surgery day is only six weeks. I did months of research before I actually called the center. I wanted to be sure this is the right decision.

I had my seminar and initial consultation on May 11, nutritionist appt. with metabolic breath test, psych eval, split sleep study all at the end of May. Insurance

approval took a little over a week, my surgery date is tomorrow. Thank God....

I am ready to get sleeved.

You are almost there,

Good luck!

Thanks, Sigma! I have some appointments to go yet. 7/3: bone density, dietary class, and pre-op consult with my surgeon. 7/10: Consult with anesthisiologist and consult with sleep dr. (my number from my home sleep study was just a tad above the normal range but no biggie....this is just a consult) 7/11: fitness consult at 8 a.m. then I have to be at hospital at 11 a.m. for endoscopy/colonoscopy. Whew! That's about it...other than pre-op bloodwork.

I would call your insurance now, so that you can schedule anything else you may need to early enough. Your surgeon may want certain tests done also in addition to the insurance requirements.

For me i went for consultation back in September... had my psych evaluation done... did 3 months with a nutritionist... everything was submitted to my insurance for approval early December.. was approved within a week and was in surgery December 20, 2012. The process was rather quick for me.

Wow Guys,

Thanks for all the input, I spoke to my insurance, they only require the psch eval. Any other test that need to be done are the requirement of the surgeon and not the insurance although they are going to review whatever the surgeon sends over. I have my telephone consult with him July 3rd in the am, so i guess once that happens i'll schedule everything else that needs to be done.

I have to admit i'm a little nervous about the whole thing, but I'm ready to live again! Can't wait for that first time i sit down in a chair that i know now is a tight fit, and to not have any issues! Oh and boy six flags great adventure is calling my name way too loudly!

Thanks again everyone for all the insight!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
