Should i change my surgery date?

Recommended Posts

I am faced with a dilemma. I did not know that I could not travel for up to 4-6 weeks post surgery (never had surgery before did not think to ask until now). I have been working on a big project at work for the last 6 months and as a result have a couple traveling trips in 2nd and 3rd weeks of July. One of the trips is the final meeting of the project and in Miami,FL. Although a working trip, it also serves as a reward for all the hard work. Dilemma: My surgery is July 1st which only gives me a little over 3 weeks post op before the BIG Miami trip! Is this reason to postpone surgery until after the trip?

Can't travel? Heck I was on a plane 3 days after surgery heading home and did just fine! (most of us Mexico surgery folks did). I don't understand why you can't travel...

Do know you may not have all the energy you want in Miami, and you won't be able to swim... So it's up to you.

I postponed my surgery until after a vacation. So you do what works for you.

The big issue here is clotting, especially in the legs. I did travel 2.5 weeks post op, but I would be very cautious. This is how embolisms are formed.

If flew from NC to NM 9 days after surgery. Wasn't a big deal. All my Dr. said was not to lift anything into the overhead compartment, and I'd be fine, I was.

I wouldn't change it if it was me. I'd just make sure that you get up a walk around every hour and flex your leg muscles to prevent embolisms. Take some Protein Shakes with you and enjoy.......You will do just fine.... :) I'm not a doctor so this is JMO. :P

Thanks for responding. There are enough fun things planned that week that the ability of not swimming is not a biggie to me. But I need to consider my energy level.

I had complicatins that were in part due to air travel, bu twe have alot of people sleeved in one place or another that requires traveling, so that is a good question.

I quess the real answer is, worst case scenario, would this put your job in jeopardy? ruin the project?

I'd get up and walk the isles evert half hour or so, to prevent the risk of clots. And maybe compression socks?

Hundreds of us fly/travel.. Several thousand miles for some. Three weeks post-op shouldn't be a huge concern for clotting. Either way, walking in the airports, hotel, destination is your best medicine for recovery. Three weeks out you hould be back to normal IMHO

EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.. but in know you can do it.

I would speak to my doctor and see if he is ok with you traveling.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
