Tijuana safety Qs for people who have BTDT ...

Recommended Posts

I bought airfare today for myself and my companion, a female cousin. My husband is joining us later in the week -- duty calls back home and he can't fly in until later. He's scared silly about two women being "alone" in Tijuana. For those who have already been there, done that, how was it? I have read so many reports from this forum and none have ever said they felt unsafe.

My questions are, did you feel safe at all times? Did your companion travel to places besides the hotel and hospital, and if so, where? Did you go out after dark at all? Did you use a taxi service or walk while in Tijuana? Any issues crossing the border? (We both have passports.)

Any trouble getting back across the border with your meds, or with anything else you purchased while in Mx?

Any warnings for two tough girls traveling alone? :)

My Cordinator was our personal escort most of the time. We had a blast. We did venture out alone without any issue. EXCEPT FOR TRAFFIC! My daughter is a NASCAR racer and she was blown away by the driving in TJ. :D

I felt perfectly safe at all times. I was at MiDoctor/Marriott. I walked around outside in the area near the hotel with another sleever and felt perfectly safe. Stick to the tourist/shopping areas. Drivers will take you to the safe places.

No problems bringing meds back.. doctor will give you a script for everything you need. Our driver warned us not to bring back any tequila because that can hold things up. Small souvenirs were no problem though.

I was alone after surgery and felt safe. Now, I didn't go out running around by myself, but the hotel and ride to the doc was safe. No problem getting across the border with meds. You ladies will be just fine.

You are welcome to read my bog about the whole travel experience. Www.hoosierfatty.com

Your hubby can call the Marriott toll free to check on you. Good luck!

We were at Florence Hospital. My hubby ventured out to the 7/11 type store. Going to Lucerna Hotel thru Tijuana is a trip. The traffic is utterly crazy. At Lucerna there was a big VW car show going on across the street. We walked all down thru there and didn't feel a bit unsafe...probably the only Americans with a thousand locals. We also walked around down other streets. Just don't go down any dark alleys and use common sense.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
