Anyone being sleeved at Salem hosp in MA?

Recommended Posts

I have Dr Rivera as well... Have you finished up your Heart & Wellness stuff and all of your other appts yet?

I'm done with everything. I have one appointment with the nutritionist left, then they send my paperwork to get approved for surgery. They stalled my appointment wit the surgeon due to gaining some weight (2 1/2 pounds, which I'm assuming was due to gettin the upper gi that leaves u gassy for days).

Make sure you call them and stay on top of them. I was done with EVERYTHING the 1st week if June, it took them a month to get it together and give me a date, and that only happened after I emailed the dr.

I'm sorry that I have so many questions.... Have you lost any weight yet?

Yes I have lost weight and I'm very happy I had the gastric sleeve. I think the program at NSMC is fantastic and I'm so happy I chose to go with them.

You will do fine. The first three days are the roughest on the diet but after that you won't even want food. That's how I was and I thought it was going to be rough too. You can have one greek yogurt a day, one fruit, and juice. If you space things out you will find yourself actually full. The day of the surgery the anesthesiologists will talk with you. They asked me if I wanted some pain killer which I was later told it was a block. It lasted for 12 hours and I felt wonderful. In order for you to have it you must sign the approval before surgery. They gave it to me in recovery. I remember them doing it and I remember asking them question but I don't remember anything else down in recovery.

Dr. Benedetto's program recommends Carnation Instant milk shakes. Before surgery you can have the regular one but after surgery you have to do the sugar-free. They do not recommend the ones that are already mixed in the bottles because they do not contain as much Protein. Also you must use Simple Smart milk because that contains more protein than other milks. I don't notice the difference. Also I had a hard time finding sugar-free vanilla Instant Carnation milk so I order through Amazon.com. Good Luck.

I used the program drinks Lahey required, each Protein Shake contained 25g of Protein low fat and definitely kept me full. Post surgery I thrive on the Protein Powder I get at Walmart , they have 30g of protein and are low fat and taste yummy, I found the carnation to not carry enough protein to sustain me and get all my required protein in post op and I still use them 3 mths post op and down 70lbs

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
