Hello all, I am new to this forum but have been lurking a bit pre-op. I had the gastric plication surgery (laparoscopic) on 5/29/13 and got home yesterday 5/31/13. I realize the NUT that I saw probably isn't the optimal consultant as my pre surgery appt with her was a group appointment primarily consisting of people getting bypass surgery or lapband so half the things she talked about, she would follow up with "this doesn't apply to you" and the post op diet plan she gave me is for lapband surgery! Basically, all I have consumed is low sugar apple juice, Water, and liquid Protein (which is vile) and my Vitamin, acid reducer and pain meds.

Where I need some advice is regarding how and when to introduce a more palpable Protein option like a shake and what kind you would recommend. I dont have my followup visit to the NUT until june 6th, which will be by phone and i really dont want to wait to try a better option. Any and all advice greatly appreciated!

Also when do you guys successfully introduce Soups other than broth into your diet? I would love Tomato Soup or carrot/cashew Soup (non chunky soups) as I despise Jello and clear broths!

Thanks

Thanks-I didn't realize this forum was exclusively for sleeved patients. I will look for resources specific to plication.

I thought plication was another term for the sleeve. Like an "old school" term. Stick around! The more the merrier!

The surgeries are a little different. The sleeve they remove part of the stomach and the plication is where they turn part of the stomach in and not remove it. Or at least that's how I always understood the two to be different.

You most likely can eat broths an perhaps some Protein Shakes in a few days. liquids would be my best Quest. I would call your surgeons office and ask them this question. They really have dropped the ball on this one. Sorry to see you struggle like this. :)

Thanks everyone! I was dissappointed with the NUT but the doctor is very good and they were a packaged deal. I am fine on Clear Liquids and will definitely stay with them until I see my doc on follow up next week.

Glad this forum is open to other wls patients since I didn't see a good plication specific site (only one for a specific surgery center). Seems like there are good tips and advise here for anyone battling the buldge

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
