7 days post op. Is this bad??

Recommended Posts

I feel great. I am losing weight, but I am not sure if I am following the diet or not! I am confused! He told me I could start puree. So I had been drinking Protein Shakes, cottage cheese, Soups etc. Well today I was gone out of town all day, mostly on the road. We stopped the only place along the road and nothing was available except fast food. I got a cheeseburger cut 1/3 of it off and removed the bun, covered it with ketchup and ate most of the middle soft part of it and left the outer edge. I also ate 2 small soft fries. I was satisfied but not stuffed. My daughter ate the rest. Is this bad? Am I too early to do this?? I chewed it to muck in my mouth and I had no problems. Does pureeing it in your mouth count???

In an emergency it does! chew, chew, chew, chew, chew......

I think the cheeseburger and the fries are both no-no's. Maybe next time when you know you'll be on the road you could just pack a bag for yourself so you don't get in that situation where you have to eat fast food. You shouldn't have any solids like that yet...Too soon. The first couple of weeks I didn't go anywhere without some sort of mushy food. I know your temptation.

It aint solid if you chew it to paste. The challange is to chew and not forget. As you reduce your food intake the quality will count more. Our bodies need the quality stuff, our minds want the good stuff. Balance will help keep you on track.

I eat anything I want in very small amounts. I love fries but know that their food value is low. I have put fries in the sweets class. When chewed to mush fries are desert.

Shutuplena- packing is a good idea, although I am not sure how I would keep yogurt or cottage cheese cold, or how I would cook broth or Soup. I am going to carry the Protein Shakes in my car, so that will help.

Teatea- My Dr did say for me to start mushies so I dont feel like I am going to "sabatogize the operation" I agree fast food is the worst possible thing to put in your body, but I am glad I ate as I felt great restriction and it made me realize this band is working, just not working so great with mushies as they slide right thru. When will your dr release you to mushies??? Jill

Most doctors don't want you on mushies right away. They want the stomach to settle down from surgery and the stiches to heal. The issue is not to get the stomach churning and liquids and mushies go right through. Make sense? In your case, you would have been better off having a milk shake, although lots of calories, than solid foods. THis is time for healing. Weight loss will come later.

Hope this helps.

If you'd been given the OK on mushies and you chewed it to mush and had no discomfort or problems, then you've done no harm.

You know the food value of fast food, but we all have to eat it on occasion when there's no alternative. You did the best you could, didnt just throw caution to the wind and didnt overdo it. I think you did well.

Planning ahead is a better idea of course, but these things happen from time to time. I've got a small cooler and some containers that have ice rings in them that you can prefreeze to keep food cold - since I go to uni and dont have access to a fridge or anything. The food is fine in the car for a couple of hours. Although nowadays a year out I'd just buy a salad roll or something healthy instead.

My operation was Dec. 1st, and today is Decmebr 25th. I have eaten several solid things in the past week, chewing them ...or should I say orally pulverizing them. I just have been hungry at meal times, and don't get satisfied with the liquids for any length of time. Will my fills help with this problem?

The fills will help and so will learning the new feeling of full; The brain has been trained to expect to see and feel a big plate of food. it is now seeing a very small portion. The brain knows that is not enough so it says to keep eating.

I have had a lot of luck retraining my brain by changing the food I eat. I have switched to an Atkins style diet. It is working well for me and the hunger monster is gone.

Another idea when you're in a pinch could be to get a container of yogurt at a 7-11 type of store. Even if it isn't lowfat and low-sugar, I think it would come closer to fitting in with your prescribed diet. Some fast food places even offer yogurt now, too!

Atkins makes a pre-mixed shake in a can. I try to keep some on hand for emergencies. They travel well and they are palatable.

I am sure that your emergency situation has not caused any permanent damage - but try to follow your doc's recommendations from now on.

Good Luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
