How do you find a doctor or facility?

I spent several weeks reading through everything I could find on these forums. For me, the most consistently positive reviews coupled with the best price led me to Dr. Fernando Garcia. I made sure to talk to several of Dr. Garcia's former patients, including a couple from my home state. Everyone only had positive things to say. Once I felt confident with my choice of surgeon, I contacted the Ready4Achange website and they set everything up and answered all my questions.

I had my surgery in March and have zero regrets. Dr. Garcia and his entire team are awesome. Good luck to you.

***Oops. I just realized this was an old post. Lol. I'll leave my advice. Maybe it will help someone else.

I have decided I'm willing to go to Mexico for the gastric sleeve surgery. i've done all my research and I honestly just cannot afford it in the US anywhere!

So...WHERE do you start?! How do you find a doctor or facility? Any tips would be greatly appreciated' date=' I'd love to have this done before October, maybe in September, so I need to start doing my research. How did you pick yours? Any recommendations?

Thanks SOO much in advance! This group has been so helpful for me :)[/quote']

I don't know how to help w/surgery but I wanted to say good luck to you on your journey! I hope everything goes smoothly!

I started reading the forums and taking notes...Dr's name, hospital or clinic, time in hospital, hotel or recovery house, the towns safety, procedure, there are so many variables, leaks, deaths....I researched for about a month, scheduled surgery for 2 weeks out and started the liquid diet right away. Before I knew it I was home and now back on real food. I did learn it's better to schedule more than 2 weeks out if you have to fly, as in 2 weeks the prices for flights gets pretty steep.

I used Dr Kelly and was very pleased. I quit taking pain meds the next morning after surgery that's how well I felt. If you use Dr Kelly book directly with him!! You get the better hospital, leak test etc...and Cecy is a sweet heart.

Don't worry, I'm still reading the posts :) I still have not scheduled my surgery, waiting to save up the funds and I should be ready to go by January. Tim, how much did you pay for your surgery with Dr. Garcia?

What facility is Dr. Kelly in?

Hi, I also used Dr Fernando Garcia. I had my surgery on 9/13/13 and couldn't be any happier with the care from the entire staff. I paid $4700 total and that included 3 nights at the Marriott and 2 nights in the hospital. If your Bmi is over 50 or if they repair a hernia it is $500 additional. He is thru Ready 4 a Change. You won't be disappointed I promise. I have lost 40 lbs so far. Best of luck with your decision.

My bmi was over 50, so the cost for me was $5200. I'm still doing great. Weight loss has slowed some, but it's still coming off. I'm about 6 1/2 months out and down 132 pounds.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
